This is my conspiracy theory for the night. AA was taken over by Rogers Corporation, and is now their puppet. Rogers Corporation doesn't care about what is best for the team. They only care about making money and building the brand. Here is some of my proof.

I think it started back last years trade deadline. When he traded for JA Happ. AA was told he had to make a deal for a name, to make a deal with a ton of players, just to make the headlines. Especially since they weren't doing all that great on the season. Just think of how much the Toronto Bluejays where in the news when they made their (9?) player trade.

Next came the Marlins deal.. Oh the names we picked up in that deal. Has there ever been so many names acquired by one team in one deal. A deal that'll be talked about for years and years, but not just us but by all baseball fans...

Then there was the Dickey. What would be the best way to end the off season? Trade for an award winner of course. We needed a pitcher, may as well get last years CY Young award winner. At any means necessary, even if it would take our top 2 prospects. AA's hands were tied.

And the 4th reason is... No GM would be insane enough to employ JP Arenciba as a starting catcher. Rogers Corporation needs JPA around to bring in all the teenage girls. And then they sell a phone to them while they're at it.

it actually makes sense. Rogers pressuring AA to field a winning team and to bring in players that can win. When AA took over he talked about building the team from the farm and was doing everything right(with a vouple of hiccups) but the farm sytem was blooming some of the players were extremely close to coming up. He talked about not contending until we had a set core and would build from within. All of a sudden AA took a complete 180 after another losing season and sold everything off and became the oldest team in baseball from the youngest in one offseason. You don't do that unless you recieve pressure from about or you hit your head.

If their goal was just about making money why the f*** would they acquire some of the most outrageously expensive contracts in Buehrle, Johnson, and Reyes. Consider your theory screwballed.

I think your argument fell apart when you said that trading for Happ was trading for "a name."

He is a name. Just not huge. He was traded for Roy Oswalt and had Eras in the 2~ range in previous years. It's more about the number of players involved in the trade.

You need to spend money to make money. Those are all big names that attracted more fans and views and it put the Bluejays in the spot light, did it not? What team was the most talked about last off-season... Rogers Corporation got a s*** ton of press and coverage by acquiring those players. It doesn't happen with cheaper lesser known players.

We're all entitled to our stinkers. We'll see if he can learn from this adversity and become a better poster. Probably it will just be a downward spiral of hookers and cocaine though.

Why are hookers and cocaine considered a downward spiral?

Depends if its cheap or expensive hookers. And cocaine is good. You gotta worry when you get down to the crack and meth.

Teenage girls go to baseball games because of JPA? Really?

Makes sense to me. If you asked your gf/wife/chick friend to go to a ball game she's probably more inclined w/ JPA lover boy there

When people are a victim of a practical joke they often start blaming everyone in the world, so it's understandable here...you don't want to believe that we were victims of a sick practical joke when we were led to believe that AA really is this saber-friendly, value seeking ninja. While your searching for a alternate answer is surprisingly slow (almost Stoeten'esk) it is understandable. Think of AA a lot like Inspector Gadget, he lucked his way through his job, for the first while, however AA doesn't have dog watching over him and a genius niece bailing him out of his trouble with her computer knowledge...AA has a lamb and a mother who's about to cook it for him.

In other words, the guy just isn't a good GM and he's surrounded by people that know less than he does.

Maybe a couple of whores would go because of him, but it wouldn't make enough of a difference for Rogers to demand JPA be kept.

If the OP believes Rogers execs told him to do that and he meant Beeston, I'd believe his silly conspiracy. But if he believes Nadir Mohamed or his underlings came up with those ideas close to what was laid out is completely ludicrous.

Sorry, in Toronto a name player is a Superstar or future HOF. Otherwise they're a nobody and the fans will be clicking away texting on their Iphones or Galaxy's

Winning also attracts fans. And a strong farm pipelining talent to the majors ensures a steady flow of young, cheap controllable talent. I guess Alex or the suits got impatient and couldn't wait. Sad, because the team is in the same boat now as the Sox and Yankees. And the fans that loved the Marlins & Dickey trades are in for a rude awakening if Alex doesn't undo this mess soon.
