The game started off with JPA not being able to make a good throw back to Happ and Happ not being able to catch it. Looks like we're in for a ball buster!

High WHIP + Dingers............Happ is great

BTW

Confucius Say

JPA is a Major Leaguer.

He reminds me of a poor man's Mark Buehrle... but Pettite is a pretty good comp too

Not Buehrle. Happ just pumps almost nothing but fastballs in there. He doesn't have one dominating enough to do that.

You could argue he shouldn't be. It is true. Hes wild in the strikezone. He throws 90 and pitches at the top of the zone because he can't get the ball down.

I find he works the sides of the plates pretty well...that's about all I'll say about that.

You only think Happ has control because he was in a positional battle with RickyRo in ST.

He has a career 4.02 BB/9. That's bad.

Yeah he walks too many. Yeah he nibbles. He still has pretty good control. He has to do those things because his stuff sucks and his velocity is nothing special, or else he'll get pounded.

I wonder if they're sitting in the scout seats or bought the tickets themselves.

who cares, they are going to kick our ass tomorrow.

Control is your ability to not walk guys. The Major Leagues walk 3.01 guys per nine innings this year. Happ is routinely over 4.00 and has a career 4.02. If by "pretty good" you mean "fairly bad", you'd be correct.

Are you missing something?

This is funny because I was arguing with someone over Redmond being better than Happ because he has better control, and the person went on to say how his BB/9 is not a reflection of him having better control. Infact the argument was enough that I altered my view-point of the defintion of control. If a pitcher just throws balls down the middle of the plate he's going to have a low walk rate but that doesn't mean he has good control, actually he probably has bad control. Happ is a guy that has to work the sides of the plate because he has to, he does this effectively enough, I never said he had great control or even good control, I said he has pretty good control.

What you're thinking of is command, which is a different thing altogether. Control is the ability to throw strikes, command is the ability to throw the ball exactly where you want to - quality strikes, essentially. I'd say Happ has good command for somebody with his control.

OK you got me there... control was a poor choice of words.
