theblujay Verified Member Posted July 26, 2013 Posted July 26, 2013 POS? Why the hatred? It's cool to HATE JPA because of the cool posters do it.
FireAlexAnthopoulos Verified Member Posted July 26, 2013 Posted July 26, 2013 He may not be "good" by your ridiculous standards but he will be soon Since when is it "ridiculous" to expect a major league catcher to be above replacement level at basic skills like pitch blocking and throwing out runners? And that's not even considering offense! Since JPA loves to compare himself to Buster Posey so much, here's a quick comparison... Posey: 4 career rSB, 7.3 career RPP JPA: -12 career rSB, -6.5 career RPP JPA is well below average in saving stolen-base runs and blocking pitches, where as Posey is above league average. These are fundamental skills a catcher needs to have, and JPA isn't even league average at them! This is his fourth season in the major leagues!
JSFIP Verified Member Posted July 26, 2013 Author Posted July 26, 2013 Don't think that JPA will be a good player or a bust? Bust
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2013 Posted July 26, 2013 POS? Why the hatred? Because we may be stuck with that clown for the foreseeable future and I can't see the Jays ever making the PS with him as starting C
o2cui2i Community Moderator Posted July 26, 2013 Posted July 26, 2013 I don't think JPA will. Simple as that it is because I say it's so... teenage girl response. lol

You created this thread, why would you not support your claim from the start? I also read the rest of this thread and still can't find any quantitative support.

JPA is taking his own progression that's all. If we're giving up on players after 4 seasons then why do we even bother with Bautista? Oh yeah there's this thing called IMPROVEMENT
JSFIP Verified Member Posted July 26, 2013 Author Posted July 26, 2013 it is because I say it's so... teenage girl response. lol Ok man, keep calling me a teenage girl. I'm not the one saying lol or personally attacking others
JSFIP Verified Member Posted July 26, 2013 Author Posted July 26, 2013 He is looking like one at the moment Yes but he will get better
o2cui2i Community Moderator Posted July 26, 2013 Posted July 26, 2013 No it's really not... People hate on JPA outside of this board too you know I never hated him until he went all media douche a couple weeks ago. he cant help that he cant play baseball. it's AA's fault he's the every day catcher. but JPA can help whether he's a dick head or not and he's a dick head. funny that he wants to take his ball and go home because the commentators are picking on him. lol about as juvenile as the it is because I say it is argument.
JSFIP Verified Member Posted July 26, 2013 Author Posted July 26, 2013 You think JPA will improve Bautista style? Okay Its just an example. Wow this board is dense

If we're giving up on players after 4 seasons then why do we even bother with Bautista? Oh yeah there's this thing called IMPROVEMENT well Bautista has always been valuable and versatile on the defensive end, and even in his poor years at the plate he was WAYYY more productive than JPA ever has been you aren't comparing JPA to Bautista now are you? like JPA compared himself to Posey? Are you JPA
JSFIP Verified Member Posted July 26, 2013 Author Posted July 26, 2013 There really is no reason to believe he will get better, other then a little bit of hope you have which means nothing Says you. It means something to me
o2cui2i Community Moderator Posted July 26, 2013 Posted July 26, 2013 Yes but he will get better no he wont... he wont get better because in his mind he's already a star and thus his comment about his being as good as buster posey. you cant get better if you think you are already there. unless he is humbled, he's gonna be crap his whole short and horrible career. there's always barber college

FireAlexAnthopoulos Verified Member Posted July 26, 2013 Posted July 26, 2013 Enough with the Posey thing. JPA is taking his own progression that's all. He's not progressing at all, he's sucked every year. 2012 was his least bad year defensively, but his numbers are worse this year. And his offensive production continues to plummet by the year - just compare his OPS, wRAA, and BB/K from 2011 to now. He's even whiffing on more first pitches than ever this year, demonstrating a lack of plate discipline (which he curtly explained to the media that it's because "strikeouts don't really matter to people who play the game").
