Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted July 19, 2013 Posted July 19, 2013 Brandon Phillips still has some bitterness over the Reds giving Joey Votto $200 million “I just feel like they didn’t have to sign Joey to that contract. He still had two more years on his,” says Phillips. “And for [the front office] to go out there and sign him before they sign me, and they knew I was going to be a free agent?” Phillips shakes his head. “I understand Joey’s a good player. He’s one of the best players in this game. But I feel like I am too. I told them that this is where I wanted to be. I begged them. I told everybody I want to finish my career here. And then they give someone a contract who didn’t ask for nothing?” “To this day, I’m still hurt. Well, I don’t wanna say hurt. I’ll say scarred. I’m still scarred. It just sucks that it happened,” he says. “For [Castellini] to sign somebody for $200 million, there must be a new vegetable or fruit coming out that we don’t know about. For him to do something like that and tell me they didn’t have any more money, that’s a lie. But what can I do? I just feel like it was a slap in my face.” http://hardballtalk.nbcsports.com/2013/07/19/brandon-phillips-still-has-some-bitterness-over-the-reds-giving-joey-votto-200-million/

G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted July 19, 2013 Posted July 19, 2013 Oh wait, you meant Phillips I suppose. LOL.

dineke Old-Timey Member Posted July 19, 2013 Posted July 19, 2013 Scarred? Lol what a drama queen... Does he realize votto is on a completely different level than him?
flafson Verified Member Posted July 19, 2013 Posted July 19, 2013 Scarred? Lol what a drama queen... Does he realize votto is on a completely different level than him? Is he? Phillips is one of the better players.
Smokey Verified Member Posted July 19, 2013 Posted July 19, 2013 " there must be a new vegetable or fruit coming out that we don’t know about. " LMAO What a goof.
dineke Old-Timey Member Posted July 19, 2013 Posted July 19, 2013 Is he? Phillips is one of the better players. Votto's 2 years younger and is a legit MVP candidate every year while Phillips is just a good player... So yeah votto is.
Arkadium Verified Member Posted July 19, 2013 Posted July 19, 2013 Is he? Phillips is one of the better players. Better for a 2B (excellent defense etc.) - offense is slighty more than mediocre (but not for 2B)
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted July 19, 2013 Author Posted July 19, 2013 Players actually believe in RBIs. I'm sure Phillips thinks that 126 RBI pace makes him an elite player. Phillips mind "I get more RBI's than Votto, I'm as good as him."
Captain Adama Old-Timey Member Posted July 19, 2013 Posted July 19, 2013 Phillips probably thinks his clubhouse PREZENTS is worth an extra 150 million.
eastcoastjaysfan Old-Timey Member Posted July 19, 2013 Posted July 19, 2013 Professional athletes are honestly the dumbest group of people in the history of the world. What good could possibly come out of making a statement like this right now? You are just gearing up for a pennant run. You just signed a huge extension. If you aren't out there making it rain on dem hoez every night you should be able to live like a king for the rest of your life. BRB GONNA COMPLETELY RUIN CLUBHOUSE CULTURE Like Votto has literally been twice as valuable this year than you bro. Sit down and shut up. It'll be interesting to see Votto's response. Probably keeps it classy like the good Canadian boy that he is!
fatcowxlive Old-Timey Member Posted July 19, 2013 Posted July 19, 2013 I'll take him! We need to solve 2B anyways
kcjaysfan Verified Member Posted July 20, 2013 Posted July 20, 2013 “For him to do something like that and tell me they didn’t have any more money” Apparently, 75 million is no money...
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted July 20, 2013 Posted July 20, 2013 Votto reached base tonight for the 30th straight game. #OBPmachine
TheHurl Site Manager Posted July 20, 2013 Posted July 20, 2013 I completely understand where he's coming from, he spent an entire off season saying he wants to sign an extension with the Reds, they tell him that they can't free up the money. The whole time he's working on a team friendly deal, they are working with Votto extending him on an open market deal. It's pretty shady dealing. He was a man of his word and signed the deal he was willing to sign (a week after the Votto deal). I don't think he needs to talk about it in the middle of the season but this is the kind of stuff Phillips does.
