Dylan Old-Timey Member Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 This has been a fun game so far. #lowrylongterm

jays4life19 Old-Timey Member Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 Let's Go Bluejays. How bout that State of the Franchise tonight?
eastcoastjaysfan Old-Timey Member Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 4/36 should get it done for Lowry. Might take more than that. He's playing like an MVP right now.
dineke Old-Timey Member Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 Might take more than that. He's playing like an MVP right now. The market for Lowry isn't very big because a lot of teams have pgs already.
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 That and teams that do need PGs(Lakers, Knicks) are in salary cap hell and can't afford to add talent without the NBA blocking a deal due to salary cap rules. I bet Lowry ends up resigning, especially if the Raptors get to the playoffs and have a deep run, which is a good possibility with the weak East.. heck, even Miami is beatable due to their weaker depth after Lebron/Wade/Bosh due to salary cap issues, poor choices (see Michael Beasley), and age/injury. At this point, only Indiana really looks like a threat in the East. The West is a lot deeper..
jays_fever Old-Timey Member Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 Lowry's 6th this year in WS..he isnt signing for 4/32.
dineke Old-Timey Member Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 Lowry's 6th this year in WS..he isnt signing for 4/32. I suggested 4/36, which I think will be close to what he gets. The guy has a bad reputation around the league for w/e reason, and has been injury prone. I'm assuming he'll regress a bit in the second half though.

The guy has a bad reputation around the league for w/e reason, and has been injury prone. I'm assuming he'll regress a bit in the second half though. I think he's just a super competitive guy and hates losing. That's what I feel I've learned from reading a lot of blogs/articles anyways. He's so intense out there. His defensive effort is second to none. He's on fire right now from 3, and he should regress a bit, but he'd be worth it on a 3-4 year deal. It just sucks because that 10-13M cap hit is going to cripple us a little bit.
eastcoastjaysfan Old-Timey Member Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 Also.. welcome back JV. 12,13, and 15 boards in the last three games. He doesn't look dominant out there or anything still. But his confidence is back and he's got his shooting touch back. Good to see with PP having a broken nose and Amir banging up his knee last night (X-rays negative, day-to-day).
jays_fever Old-Timey Member Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 Terrance Ross apparently didnt make the first cut of Sophomores in the rising stars challenge. Defence, it isnt a thing
eastcoastjaysfan Old-Timey Member Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 Terrance Ross apparently didnt make the first cut of Sophomores in the rising stars challenge. Defence, it isnt a thing Probably didn't want to have two guys from the same team on teh Sophmore team. He's in the dunk contest already. But yeah, elite defender apparently isn't elite in the eyes of the NBA brass. Someone on another board threw out some numbers: http://forums.realgm.com/boards/viewtopic.php?f=32&t=1300843&sid=19f801139b96d5d012220ec6ec81fe00 "all of these players below are averaging close to 20+ points a game ...: Vs Ross: A. Afflalo 4-11 - 10 points J. Johnson 3-10 - 12 points P. George 4/12 - 11 points J. Wall 4/15 - 11 points P. George 5/4 - 12 points" That's an elite defender. Wait until he gets stronger and fills out a bit more too. His only weakness is that he can get backed down a bit too much in the post. Give it time. I didn't even notice Afflalo on teh floor last night. Ross completely took him out of his game.
eastcoastjaysfan Old-Timey Member Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 Ross has become an elite shooter from three but, with that said, the guy needs to drive more. He has the athleticism to get into the lane but doesn't do it enough.
eastcoastjaysfan Old-Timey Member Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 Also, According to Hollinger, we have > 11% chance of reaching the NBA Finals this year lol http://espn.go.com/nba/hollinger/playoffodds/_/sort/finalsOdds

Most bigs don't really reach their potential until their mid 20s. Jonas has a ton of time to keep getting better.
eastcoastjaysfan Old-Timey Member Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 I keep forgetting that he's only 21. Most bigs don't really reach their potential until their mid 20s. Jonas has a ton of time to keep getting better. Pretty much putting up a double double every night when he gets minutes. Casey underutilizes him like crazy though. There was a stretch there last night where Casey had Buycks, Novak, Vasquez, Salmons, and Hayes on the floor at the same time for like 5-6 min. Was completely inexplicable. I'm all for giving your players the necessary rest to sustain themselves over a full season.. but the kid is 21 years old. Let him play.
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 JV still has a lot to learn defensively, so being able to watch and learn from Hayes is a good thing. I agree though, a few more minutes a game wouldn't kill him. The refs just kill him with sophomore fouls in a lot of games so sometimes it's just a matter of being in foul trouble that keeps him off the floor
Dylan Old-Timey Member Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 Not sure if everyone has seen this yet lol http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2jEWleK_AJk
eastcoastjaysfan Old-Timey Member Posted January 31, 2014 Posted January 31, 2014 DeRozan makes the ASG but Lowry gets jobbed. Advanced stats peg Lowry as basically being 2X as valuable as DeRo. Basketball still has a long ways to go (ala baseball). But it's getting better. Congrats to Demar though, well deserved. He worked hard for it.
jays_fever Old-Timey Member Posted January 31, 2014 Posted January 31, 2014 Johnson and derozan over Lowry..okay.
jays_fever Old-Timey Member Posted January 31, 2014 Posted January 31, 2014 "16 and 7 dont get you there."" Its fun to ignore other things like defence, reboundig, low turn over rate and incredibly efficient scoring rates.
eastcoastjaysfan Old-Timey Member Posted January 31, 2014 Posted January 31, 2014 Lowry is 5th in the NBA in Win Shares.. and doesn't make the ASG. lol One of the bigger snubs in NBA history probably.
jays_fever Old-Timey Member Posted January 31, 2014 Posted January 31, 2014 Lowry is 5th in the NBA in Win Shares.. and doesn't make the ASG. lol One of the bigger snubs in NBA history probably. It actually is on the Harold Reynolds level. Kenny smith knocks Lowry's basic stat line and then says Jeff Teague should have made the game, when he doesnt beat him in one single category, never mind defense.
Dylan Old-Timey Member Posted January 31, 2014 Posted January 31, 2014 I guess it means something to them but everything to do with the nba all star event is a huge joke
Dylan Old-Timey Member Posted February 1, 2014 Posted February 1, 2014 Go raps!.. Should be a fun game.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted February 1, 2014 Posted February 1, 2014 My Magic vs Bucks lol Stern should to cancel that kind of game! #TankNation
dineke Old-Timey Member Posted February 1, 2014 Posted February 1, 2014 Ross just buttf***ed faried so hard.
eastcoastjaysfan Old-Timey Member Posted February 1, 2014 Posted February 1, 2014 http://forums.realgm.com/boards/viewtopic.php?f=32&t=1301296 Vid of one of the best dunks of all time in above thread Ross is becoming an incredibly useful player. SO athletic and a great defender.
