G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted June 30, 2013 Author Posted June 30, 2013 Depth move? Or part of something bigger?
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted June 30, 2013 Author Posted June 30, 2013 Begin JPA trade speculation in 1... 2... 3... (Joking. This seems like just a depth move)
eastcoastjaysfan Old-Timey Member Posted June 30, 2013 Posted June 30, 2013 Who is currently catching in Buffalo? Ochinko? He's been terrible. Probably has to do with the Jays commitment to fielding a good AAA team.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted June 30, 2013 Author Posted June 30, 2013 Oh jeez, he's 37 years old. Hadn't heard his name in so long I'd forgotten about him.

John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted June 30, 2013 Posted June 30, 2013 Has been an okay catcher for the most part. 2010 and 2011 with the Reds he put up a .290/.353./.493 slash line playing about 50% of the time, 19 hr. wOBA .351, .340. Career wOBA .285
eastcoastjaysfan Old-Timey Member Posted June 30, 2013 Posted June 30, 2013 Career .327 OBP. Too good for a catcher on the Blue Jays. He was worth -.7 WAR last year in Colorado. It's a nothing move. Thole might get replaced with this guy... but whatever. I'd prefer Thole because of the Dickey connection.
sachmo55 Verified Member Posted June 30, 2013 Posted June 30, 2013 JP Arencibia in 72 games: 0.2 WAR Hernandez in 17 games: 0.4 WAR One's a #Top10Catcher and the other will be playing in AAA, lol
Caper Verified Member Posted June 30, 2013 Posted June 30, 2013 I wonder if they will bump up Jimenez and maybe the vet will mentor him?
eastcoastjaysfan Old-Timey Member Posted June 30, 2013 Posted June 30, 2013 Man, this guy has 50M in career earnings. He probably lives in some 3rd world island country in the Carribean where $1 goes a mile. How irresponsible was he was with his money? Just retire and stop embarrassing yourself.

Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted June 30, 2013 Posted June 30, 2013 little upgrade over JP. In other circumstances I would say that is a worthless move but..............JPA is a pile of s***.

It's his job, he feel useless doing anything else (ALA Manny Ramirez)
Errorcebia Verified Member Posted June 30, 2013 Posted June 30, 2013 There's now no reason for JP to be on this team. He and Thole are better.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted June 30, 2013 Posted June 30, 2013 Nice depth move. He had solid years with Cincy back in 2010 and 2011 as a part timer/platoon role. Better than having a Blanco or Nickeas down in Buffalo.
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted June 30, 2013 Posted June 30, 2013 The first thing to do should be to start a platoon with Thole and JPA, whomever is hot plays 3 of 5 games. You have to push players like JPA and let them know their job is not secure, but then again AA is a pussy and defers to Beeston and his marketing team so I just wasted space on this forum...sorry guys.

Thole hasn't been given a chance, he's only playing once every 5th game, it's tough to do much offensively with that little playing time. Also, I'm not sure how you can confidently say that this team would platoon the 2 if Thole was hitting, they've shown that they think very highly of JPA. One example of this is that they traded away their top prospect who also happened to be a catcher and almost ready to be in MLB as well as another decent catching prospect in Carlos Perez. All signs point to JPA being well regarded by this management/coaching regime.

They started him at first today in favour of DeRosa, I can't understand you claiming he doesn't get a chance when we DFA'd Blanco to give him a chance. But you don't earn the starting catchers position by playing worse than the starting catcher.

First of all, he's not the answer at catcher so I'm not saying he is, but neither is JPA so them platooning is the best option in my opinion. But how does playing 1 of every 5 games constitute being given a chance like you claim? He only played today because Lind left the game injured, if not he wouldn't have played. Anyway, whatever....

You play the best guy, sadly J.P is the best guy. In a month if Jimenez is still playing great in AA, bump him up to AAA. If he plays well there, give him a shot.

Also, if JPA is not that good, which he isn't, he shouldn't play 4 of every 5 games every time through the rotation. Make him work in the games he doesn't start, but anyway, it's definitely a black hole.

Thole's defense is insignificantly better, considering how bad his bat looks. There's something to be said for sending a message to JPA that he's not untouchable, a little competition would be good. Benching Arencibia for his free swinging way's may not be a bad idea - but it hurts the team at this point if Thole's bat is in the line-up consistently.

Playing Thole 2 of 5 games instead of 1 of 5 is not the same as playing him consistenly. The rest may do JPA some good, he'll have more time to tweet, shave, bang more teenage chicks and recover from it.
