Just watched Jays draftee Matt Boyd pitch an absolute complete game gem. For a guy that supposedly lacks an out pitch he had Indiana hitters swinging at air. Oregon St. will have to beat Mississippi St. twice for Boyd to go again (in the finals). For those of you looking to watch the CWS (I can't this weekend) it's easy to find feeds from the main ESPN station (Oregon St. plays Mississippi St. at 3:00 today and UCLA plays UNC at 8:00. Finals go Monday and Tuesday.

I have a question. If that game he threw on Wednesday occurred say 1 month ago, how would it affected his draft position? Also, at the level he is competing at, where would you say it compares to minor league ball levels? AA? Low A or High A?

Just a guess, but he might have gone a round or two higher at most. I would think.

One weird thing about Boyd.

Kurt Boyd is responsible for Boyd, who is ambidextrous, throwing the baseball left-handed.

“I throw a football right-handed,” he says. “I eat and write right-handed. I bat left-handed and play hockey left-handed. Dad made me throw the baseball left-handed when I was about 5.

“If I really wanted to work at it, I’d like to think I could pitch right-handed. But it’s worked out pretty well the way it is.”

Has he signed yet?

I would think (though I do not know for sure) that once he signs, he's a pro and no longer eligible to pitch in the CWS... Perhaps someone with more knowledge on the subject can confirm/deny that.
