kgm1 Verified Member Posted June 15, 2013 Posted June 15, 2013 I was for signing guys instead of emptying the farm, but the other side of the coin is, would they have signed with the Blue Jays? Certainly, this team couldn't afford to go into the season with the rotation in the shape it was at the end of last year. I don't think Sanchez was realistic and even Jason Grilli turned down the Blue Jays which makes you freaking wonder. Anyway, can't go back in time. We'll see what happens. I just get f***ing pissed off when people talk about the free agents we should have signed especially the ones who are playing well . They seem to forget the ones who they wanted AA to sign and aren't playing worth a s*** . Do you really think AA didn't try the free agent route . Hoiw many did he talk to that stated they were not interested in playing for the Jays . We have been spurned so much trying the FA route that we even had to overpay for Melky IMO . They didn't want to play in toronto . neither did Buehrle , JJ or Reyes but they didn't have a frigging choice . Everyone knows I didn't like the trades but these f***ing hindsight fans who always whine and bitch and f***ing cry after the fact just piss me off . Morrow and Romero have done s*** . Happ with a freak injury , Dickey unable to throw his 80 mph knuckle ball cause he is pitching hurt , JJ hurt after coming back and pitching strong last year . The same people who are f***ing crying and whining and f***ing bitching and acting like f***ing 4 year olds forget how much they were braging about having one of the best rotations in the AL at the start of the offseason . s*** happens , STFU or go back to the old board

Thing is, if I thought they were good enough to win 90 games, as did so many others including experts, how can I then call management stupid for putting together this team? Yes, there were some wrong evaluations and they took on expensive and risky players, but like you state, it's far from a sure thing that they would've signed any FA pitchers. If they had struck out in signing FA's and they had gone into the season with the starting rotation they ended 2012 with, I'm sure a lot of us would've been very upset.

I've been here long enough to know that some posters here will never be satisfied. Not until we have the #1 team AND #1 farm system at the same time. These posters are often very knowledgeable, but at the same time complete delusional. They have played fantasy baseball so long they have no real concept that the people that play are human beings, with likes, dislikes, families etc.... Looking at our roster, our big stars would have been over the hill before we got much significant help from the farm. They put a team on paper that was worthy of fighting to have the best odds of winning the world series. They gave us the best team we've had in a long, long time. There is lots to be disappointed about, but AA and Gibby have done their jobs well. Of course the season has been frustrating, but it is good to see someone who can step back and be reasonable about it, even if in certain moments it is easy to get angry and question things.
KSaw Verified Member Posted June 17, 2013 Posted June 17, 2013 I picked them to win 92. I still see them at 56 wins at the end of July. I think that would leave them 55 games. A 33 and 22 finish would get you your 90 that you predicted. If I'm correct about 56 before August 1st that is.
