Arkadium Verified Member Posted June 6, 2013 Posted June 6, 2013 Not only does he have the lowest BABIP on our team, but of players with at least 150 PA he has the 6th lowest BABIP in the AL and the 3rd lowest SO% in the AL. Without the bad luck Maicer is a totally defensible everyday second baseman batting at the bottom of the line-up. He should provide you with 2 to 3 WAR per season.

To determine if a player is lucky or not requires a full comparison of his LD/GB/FB/HR/SO/BB/etc rates against league averages. I guarantee you that if I joined the MLB right now I would have an atrociously low BABIP because I would be making terrible contact, just like Izturis (probably) has. I will leave it to someone else to do the actual analysis though

TheHurl Site Manager Posted June 6, 2013 Posted June 6, 2013 xBABIP = (( GB – IFH ) * (GB-IFH constant) + (FB-HR-IFFB) * (OFFB Constant) + LD * (LD Constant) + IFH + BUH ) / (GB + FB + LD + BU + – HR – SH)
Wilnercibia Verified Member Posted June 6, 2013 Posted June 6, 2013 What exactly is this? A guy with 3000 posts doesn't know?
TheHurl Site Manager Posted June 6, 2013 Posted June 6, 2013 What exactly is this? an updated formula for expected BABIP. Traditional xBABIP would be xBABIP = 0.392 + (LD% x 0.287709436) + ((GB% – (GB% * IFH%)) x -0.152 ) + ((FB% – (FB% x HR/FB%) – (FB% x IFFB%)) x -0.188) + ((IFFB% * FB%) x -0.835) + ((IFH% * GB%) x 0.500)
backontop Verified Member Posted June 6, 2013 Posted June 6, 2013 Infielders like Isturis are a dime a dozen. So why did Beeston or AA give him a three year contract?
hummus Verified Member Posted June 7, 2013 Posted June 7, 2013 Infielders like Isturis are a dime a dozen. So why did Beeston or AA give him a three year contract? Because dime a dozen players choose to play anywhere but TO
