magits Verified Member Posted May 31, 2013 Posted May 31, 2013 Sign this man immediately and stick him in the rotation: "Six teams have shown in right-hander Chien-Ming Wang, according to Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe (on Twitter). However, at this point the right-hander is unlikely to opt out of his minor league deal with the Yankees because none of the six suitors are willing to offer him a Major League contract." "The Taiwanese right-hander has a clause in his contract that allows him to opt out today if he wishes, but it was reported earlier in the week that the only way he would do that would be for a Major League roster spot on another team. In 51 innings for the Yankees' Triple-A affiliate, Wang has posted a 2.65 ERA with 4.1 K/9 and 1.6 BB/9. The consensus from scouts, however, has been that his stuff doesn't look nearly as good as it did during his peak years with the Yankees" http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/

digiblader Verified Member Posted May 31, 2013 Posted May 31, 2013 Sorry to burst your bubble, but scouting reports in the minors have been negative on Chien-Ming Wang, saying he doesn't deserve a shot in the rotation--he'd be worse than Chad Jenkins. In addition, he has decided not to opt out yet.

Errorcebia Verified Member Posted May 31, 2013 Posted May 31, 2013 Might as well. We will never have the same 5 pitchers in the rotation for the whole season, so we need the depth, and he at least has a track record of success.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted May 31, 2013 Posted May 31, 2013 It's now reported that he's staying with the Yankees minor league team. There were 6 teams interested, but none were willing to give him a big league roster spot yet.

If he blows up, he blows up. At least he can throw more than 3 innings.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted May 31, 2013 Posted May 31, 2013 I see no reason why we shouldn't be at LEAST taking shots on guys who have actually had success at the big league level rather than people named Thad.
