Notes:

Yankees:

  • Yankees place Andy Pettite on the 15 day DL with a "strained left trapezius muscle". Vidal Nuno will be called up to replace Pettite in the rotation
  • The Yankees have won 19 of their last 22 games against the Jays, and they improved to 17-0 after scoring first this season
  • Kuroda's 8 inning preformance last night against the Jays was the 6th time he's reached 7+ innings this season out of his 9 starts this season

Jays:

  • The Jays have scored 33 runs on 45 hits coming into last nights game, and they also outscored the opponent 11-2 in the first innings in the San Francisco series. Despite the huge amount of runs scored and hits they had they managed 0 runs and 4 hits against Kuroda and no first inning magic but a leadoff double in the 1st inning by red-hot Melky Cabrera.
  • Dustin McGowan has been sent to AAA Buffalo to continue his rehab program, but he won't be an option until he's off the DL on the 27th of May
  • The Jays will opt out of using a 4 man rotation, as Gibbons has announced that Jenkins pitch Monday and Ortiz will pitch Tuesday to round out the rotation

NJH told me to use ZiPS ®

Ah, they seem conservative so I thought it may be ZiPS.

Gotta win this one to have a chance at winning the series tomorrow, it would be horrible going into tomorrow looking to avoid a sweep against non other than CC.

Goddammit Gibby, you can't keep hitting a 0.245 OBP 4th.

But he's an #RBImachine. Obvious choice for 4th.

Its like a nightmare. He's a terrible player: he has a f***ing 0.245 OBP, his wOBA is down to 0.309 despite lots of HR/FB luck, he's been worth about 0.8 fWAR per 120 games in his career, and that likely drops to zero (or worse) if you account for framing, and yet he is beloved by fans, the media, the front office, and the coaching staff. He's 6th in baseball in innings caught despite being possibly the worst defensive catcher in the game, and gets trotted out in the cleanup spot despite being such a bad hitter that he's on pace to set a record low K/BB. This is madness.

And Alex said he really values K/BB ratio for hitters, yet he's got the guy with the absolute worst in the league? What....

Lol, the fanboying is like it was with John MacDonald, but at least Johnny Mac looked good in the field, and no one was under the illusion that he could hit.

Seriously, has there ever been a Blue Jays (or player anywhere) that was so bad but everyone loved him? I mean, Joe Carter had some bad seasons, but he also had some good ones, and Arencibia has just been s***.

It's all about marketing. the Jays are actively marketing towards women 16-30 and JPA is their poster boy. they dont care if they know anything about baseball, it's about ticket and jersey sales.

Yep its becoming very clear that this organization cares more about marketing then actually winning baseball games.

The only one I can think of was Gustavo Chacin. I had many long battles about him back in the day.

I very vaguely remember that, I think he was tailing off as I started getting into the Jays. Lol, 5.25 K/9 for his career. That's Jenkins-like.

Jp batting fourth, it's hard to take this coaching staff and team seriously trotting this clown out there batting fourth.

Next 2 games are important, team has no margin for error with their bad start, 0-5 versus the yanks already, have to start beating them and winning division series.

They just interviewed JP about pitch framing lol. He looked dumbfounded.

Hilarious they have a segment with Zaun, Gibbons and Hayhurst and theres not one single mention about JP's abilities to pitch frame.

Hmmm I wonder why.
