torontofan Verified Member Posted May 17, 2013 Posted May 17, 2013 Not that Gibbons bullpen management is a secret, but here is an article from BBB examining the bullpen management so far this season. Since it has been a slow day, I thought I'd post this article here. http://www.bluebirdbanter.com/2013/5/16/4337588/looking-at-the-jays-bullpen-usage
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted May 17, 2013 Posted May 17, 2013 Interesting article. I disagree with them that the bullpen itself has struggled though, since a good portion of the runs have been given up by the mop-up/filler guys. Just for fun: Janssen, Delabar, Cecil, Oliver, Loup: 24 earned runs in 92 innings Rogers, Lincoln: 20 earned runs in 28 1/3 innings dfa crew: 19 earned runs in 20 innings (Ortiz in relief, Storey, Gonzalez, Germano, Bush) Other: 2 earned runs in 5 1/3 innings (Jeffress, Santos)
torontofan Verified Member Posted May 17, 2013 Author Posted May 17, 2013 I also found that part interesting when I read it. The core has pitched relatively well, but because of the overuse of the SP the bullpen has had to use a lot of mop-up relievers to cover those innings. As you pointed out, the mop-up/dfa crew has pitched too many inning this year which has resulted in an increase in runs allowed.
Arjun Nimmala Vancouver Canadians - A+ SS It's been slow going at the start of the season for Nimmala, but on Sunday, he was 3-for-5 with his 3rd home run and 3 RBI. Explore Arjun Nimmala News >
