Iluvbjs Verified Member Posted May 17, 2013 Posted May 17, 2013 Solidarity means "union or fellowship arising from common responsibilities and interests, as between members of a group or between classes, peoples." It's not just a different form of the word 'solid'. I do agree with you though, Lawrie hasn't looked good and I think less of him than I did at the start of the season. A definite negative so far. Lawrie has looked just fine to me. I've seen him make a few plays that no other third basemen would make. I think that range wise, Lawrie definately tops that list for sure. I'm not sure how anyone could actually consider him a negative so far, never mind a definite negative. He came back off an injury that didn't allow him to swing that bat much so I'm not sure what you expected in that regard. You've also got to factor in how bad of a position the jays were in when he came back. Any ball player, never mind a high strung guy like Brett, would have been wanting to do way too much to help his team right away. His start was no different than Melky's, he looked rusty and off balance...and that goes for most of the players to that point. I don't know if you expected him to step on the field with no rust or anxiety, but it's obvious that's what happened and that's completely normal. I've expected pretty much exactly what we've gotten from him thus far, an anxious kid trying to do too much because he wants his team to win after watching the atrocious start they had. His defense has actually been pretty good and at times, utterly spectacular. He's made a few barehand grabs and started a couple of double plays on balls where it looked like there was no chance for him to touch the ball, never mind turn a double play. Hi swing is still a bit wild right now, but his movement is starting to regress naturally and it shows in the line drive contact he's making instead of ooposite field pop ups and outright whiffs.
