My question is. #1 prospect Jim Negrych is not on the 40 man roster. Does this mean he can be taken in the rule 5 draft?

That wasn't really trolling... Except he #1 prospect part.... I actually thought the rule 5 draft was a little but closer, then December.

Also, I reject that the notion that a player like Negrych cannot have value because he is in his late 20s. Bautista was almost NOTHING until his late 20s.

But Bautista didn't have a BABIP over .400 and not every f***ing player who gets lucky and is over 28 is Jose f***ing Bautista, holy s***.

Really? Is that what I said? Every player that gets lucky and is over 28 is Jose Bautista.... I think you just made that up.

You brought up that players in their late 20's can break out and have value. Why do you think Negrych will have value, pray tell?

To play Devil's Advocate, Justin Ruggiano maintained a .401 BABIP for 91 games last year. I guess it's possible Negrych rides some luck. He probably won't, though. I really like the guy as he was one of those guys no one really knows about who ends up succeeding (I randomly stumbled upon his name and liked what I saw) but I just don't think he'll play well.

Bautista was in the Majors at 23, Negrych is 28 and has never appeared in the Majors.

Bautista has a Major League tool (plus power), Negrych does not. He's an org player.

Org players do break out of the pack at times. Comparing Negrych and Bautista is silly but comparing him to Craig Counsell seems to be popular of late.

Who compared him to Bautista?

I used Bautista as an example of someone who showed almost nothing early in his career that came along in his late 20's.

Maybe he won't..... but I will tell you who will not play well......Maicer Izturis.

It's not like Roberto Alomar is in a slump and I want him replaced.

I'm willing to give Negrych a shot, see if he can maintain an OBP above .330. But it has to be done with zero expectations and Izturis/Boni would need to keep playing poorly for a few weeks.

After a couple quiet games with the bat, Negrych went 3-5 today. Average is at .398.

If anyone is wondering why I still think he should be up, I'll put it in perspective this way-- I'd rather Velez up over Bonifacio. Izturis can play shortstop and second. Bonifacio really shouldn't ever be in the infield. Now fair enough that he runs like the wind and he has had his bat wake a tiny bit but he's really not an on base guy and his glove is awful. Negrych should be up. If he hit .200 he'd be better than what's here. He's a better fielder. And I don't want to hear this giving up on Bonifacio junk. He's bad at baseball and has a horrible baseball IQ! He just hurts the team.

Negrych will have a lesser negative value than whoever he replaces, but lesser negative is not necessarily a positive. lol
