BTS Community Moderator Posted August 15, 2017 Posted August 15, 2017 Myers came off a season in which he won AL ROY with Tampa. He also got Profar (who at the time was still considered a top prospect and former No. 1 prospect in all of baseball). Marte was traded for Odorizzi (who looks like a pretty solid SP to me) and for Andrew Heaney (who was highly touted at the time and has actually pitched well when he was healthy). I even remember when I traded Shelby Miller to him for Starlin Castro a couple of years ago, you were even criticizing that deal FFS. Right, another deal you won easily over GP.

Do you know the difference between value at the time and hindsight revision? Also, again, Marte and Posey could both fall off a cliff, it doesn't change the fact that they gave you huge value and pushed you to contend for the championship for years. I don't even know why I'm arguing with you. Shouldn't be a real surprise that the only guy defending these deals is the one who benefitted from them but I guess I keep hoping that one day you'll gain some honesty.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted August 15, 2017 Posted August 15, 2017 I guess we should stop Boxy from making trades, because people have been feasting off him for years as well. Not sure whats bad about the Osuna deal. Weaver should be a decent SP in the NL and he did get my 1st/2nd/3rd round picks + my 1st and 2nd waiver draft picks next February. I gave up a lot in that deal & basically handcuffed myself. Lol ok there bud.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted August 15, 2017 Posted August 15, 2017 Right, another deal you won easily over GP. How so? Castro sucked for all those years I owned him just prior to this season. Miller actually had a solid season with Atlanta after in 2015 and I remember even that season you were even questioning me as to why I was still rostering Castro!
GeorgiaPeach Verified Member Posted August 15, 2017 Posted August 15, 2017 Before this season, I wonder what term Cozart would warrant? Okay??? I don't buy into hot streaks, breakouts etc.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted August 15, 2017 Posted August 15, 2017 Lol ok there bud. Didn't you trade Carlos Correa for Yasiel Puig (when his value was at an all-time low) and Kyle Hendricks? If you're criticizing my previous deals, I'd like to see you defend that one.
GeorgiaPeach Verified Member Posted August 15, 2017 Posted August 15, 2017 Lol ok there bud. So why is your team & farm worse than mine?
BTS Community Moderator Posted August 15, 2017 Posted August 15, 2017 Let's make a deal jaysblue: I'll give you Givens and a 2nd for Cozart. If your trade was fair value, you should accept this quick win, because Givens is better than Steckenrider and a 2nd is better than a 4th + 5th.

Miller had one decent season his entire career. I'm sure you were counting on that outlier season when you traded him as a value proposition. "I know Miller is pretty bad but he's going to have a pretty good year in 2015, trust me."
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted August 15, 2017 Posted August 15, 2017 Didn't you trade Carlos Correa for Yasiel Puig (when his value was at an all-time low) and Kyle Hendricks? And Chris Paddack! It was a bad trade but I was gambling on Puig cashing in on all that talent he has. Didn't work out like I'd hoped, plus Diaz just fell off a cliff for some reason.

I think Steck and Givens are pretty much a wash moving forward this season TBH. Steck is now pitching in higher leverage situations, has a higher K rate and with the Marlins BP relying on Ziegler as their closer and with Barraclough on the DL still, Steck might get some save opportunities possibly.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted August 15, 2017 Posted August 15, 2017 So why is your team & farm worse than mine? I sure as hell wouldn't trade my farm for yours.

Didn't work out like I'd hoped, plus Diaz just fell off a cliff for some reason. So its ok for you to gamble on Puig cashing in on all that talent, though for Gibbers to gamble on Myers wasn't? As for Diaz, he did fall of a cliff. Could the same happen to Cozart who is playing well above his career norms? For sure. Again, not trying to get into a heated argument with you. Just having discussion.
The Cats Ass Old-Timey Member Posted August 15, 2017 Posted August 15, 2017 I sure as hell wouldn't trade my farm for yours. Pretty sure you have one of the top 3 farms.
BTS Community Moderator Posted August 15, 2017 Posted August 15, 2017 The absolute worst part of the DDL is jaysblue building his team by repeatedly pillaging Gibbers, and then routinely coming in to defend Gibbers' side of moves that clearly worked out better for him while he sits at the top of the standings and Gibbers toils near last place.

Even if Steck never gets to be a closer and stays a set up guy, he's equivalent to Givens. And if Givens is worth a Top 100 guy like was asked for, that's easily a 1st round value. And prior to 2017, Cozart was barely rosterable. I rostered him because I knew he had a job and gave me averagish stats at SS. I would've moved Cozart in a heartbeat for a 1st prior to his "breakout" year.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted August 15, 2017 Posted August 15, 2017 I guess we should stop Boxy from making trades, because people have been feasting off him for years as well. No one questions Boxy's desire to field a competitive team. Trying and failing is not the issue. It happens. It's certainly happened to me but I think we've both showed that we're at least trying to build cores and find our way out of it. Speaking for myself, there's some roster neglect that inevitably comes with falling out of the race but I still periodially do some housekeeping to at least field an actual roster and meet the minimum requirements of sportsmanship and I don't see any issue with Boxy either. Inevitably someone has to be at the bottom. It's not like we're trying to spin our wheels. The whole issue with GP is that he shows no real desire to break the cycle he is in. Now sure it's annoying that you seem to benefit from this more than anyone else but I don't think you need to shoulder any blame. It's not your fault if GP refuses to try to land better deals by shopping his players to other owners but it is a problem for the league. People have been complaining about him for a while and not just about his trades with you but his mismanagement in general. There's probably enough momentum for a league referendum at this point and I think he would probably lose that vote.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted August 15, 2017 Posted August 15, 2017 Miller had one decent season his entire career. I'm sure you were counting on that outlier season when you traded him as a value proposition. "I know Miller is pretty bad but he's going to have a pretty good year in 2015, trust me." He was pretty good in 2013 and at his age looked like one of the younger promising pitchers coming up in baseball moving forward. He took some steps back in 2014, though I'm sure he wasn't the only young arm in baseball ever to do so. Sanchez has had his problems this season with blisters and inconsistencies, so I guess he should be considered not good moving forward as well?

TheHurl Site Manager Posted August 15, 2017 Posted August 15, 2017 Seriously lets try and keep this impartial and stop with the comparisons. My only issue here is that GP adds picks every year and then wastes them. Thus we can't take any late round picks as factors in deals (Not sure they are factors in any deal). Everyone has people that they go to first for deals, and people they don't go to. We just have to make sure that it's not affecting the integrity of the league. Some feel this is so lets deal with it...like adults.
GeorgiaPeach Verified Member Posted August 15, 2017 Posted August 15, 2017 I sure as hell wouldn't trade my farm for yours. You're short a guy and have a couple of meh's. I'd pass.

jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted August 15, 2017 Posted August 15, 2017 Boxy also got Kyle Hendricks with Puig though. Who happened to be a top 10 pitcher last year. And to think Kyle Hendricks was going to pitch like a Top 10 pitcher with his stuff moving forward was kind of a bit optimistic. Great time to sell by the other team!

I'm not sitting around for long discussing little pieces of a trade to move a meh SS for a guy I see as a back end Marlins pen arm for the next 5 years.

BTS Community Moderator Posted August 15, 2017 Posted August 15, 2017 Really? I guess I owe all my DDL success to Gibbers at this point. A fair bit of it, yeah. Posey and Marte are franchise-altering talents that have helped you dramatically.
