This looks like it could be one of those "bad advice" horror stories.

 

When a team offers you 6.5M, does a physical that shows structural damage and only drops your bonus by 1.5M.... you f***ing take it.

IIRC, the physical only showed that he had an abnormally small UCL. Keith Law thinks that Aiken will still be a first round pick too. I don't really think he mishandled it.

 

Thank goodness Norris has been saved from the Boxy curse.

Blue Jays pick 29th... probably no chance he falls that far considering where Giolito and Fedde went. Although the Nats don't have a pick this year.

So Raisel Iglesias is in the system and cleared waivers without anybody noticing. I added him to my roster... but I'm not sure if it's fair or if we should make him hit waivers again. Please chime in.

As far as I'm concerned, perfectly legal add and anyone who fell asleep at the wheel only has themselves to blame (myself included).

I noticed Iglesias and was waiting for him to make his debut. Thought that was the rule.

 

Hmm...I thought he played in AA last year. Now I feel like I don't know the rules.

It's a grey area because he's never played a pro game outside the AFL, but signed a MLB deal and will start in the majors. He should have been picked in the waiver draft, but yahoo.

Basically the division that we decided to do was...

 

International free agents subject to spending restrictions = domestic prospects who did not hit AA (cannot be waiver drafted, must MLB debut to be added).

International free agents not subject to spending restrictions = domestic prospects who did hit AA (can be waiver drafted, are free agents (anyone want Luke Jackson?)).

I'm torn. On one hand I believe it's a good legal move without any rules broken. On the other hand I hate good things happening for NJH. Luckily I have 3 hands and the third hand says that he's a Red so they will move him to the pen and this move really won't matter at all.

 

So I vote yes keep him, and I hope he gives you crabs...again.

There's confusion because the situation is inherently confusing. I had to read your explanation three times. A lot of the problem stems from the fact that the term IFA gets applied to two very different classes of player. That's not on you. That's just the way baseball does it.

 

So what exactly happened here? Was Iglesias in the pool the whole time or was he recently added and you waited for him to clear waivers?

I didn't notice him in the system until today, as a FA. Yahoo must have added him a few days ago and he cleared waivers without anyone noticing. He most definitely was not in the system at any point during our waiver draft.

as much as I hate Fantrax's emails about players being added to the player pool (mostly because they are low level players), I really wish Yahoo would set up an opt in service where you could get emails for players added to the pool.

Well that's a lucky break. I assume you would have burned the waiver had you noticed earlier but turns out you didn't have to. I know a lot of people hate the FanTrax emails but this is exactly why I love them. I'd rather get bombarded with emails than be in the dark about something like this.

I picked him up in the PL 3 days ago, so I think he's been a FA for a bit now.

He should have been in the system when it opened and taken in the waiver draft. 25-year old who signed a $27 M contract isn't exactly a low-profile signing. Chalk it up to yahoo's failure and let njh keep him.
