There's playing time at the corner OF spots and time at 1B/DH. An injury to any one of Ortiz, Napoli, Betts, Sandoval, Hanley, or Bogaerts thrusts him into a full-time opportunity. More to the point, he'll play if he hits.

He may need two injuries though, with Castillo also occupying the outfield. And they also have Holt and Cecchini sitting around.
