I wonder if Elias gets a rotation spot. Felix/Kuma/Paxton/Happ are locked in. They probably take Walker over Elias if everyone is healthy.

Walker's penciled in as their #4

Well, as the guy who actually owns Carlos Rodon I'm curious.

I can tell you that I was going to top the mid rotation starter who isn't assured of a job for Rodon. Not so for Rondon.

It makes sense though, Boxy has asked opinions of so many people on his team that we can just trade his assets without his permission.

No, the only pitchers penciled in are Felix, Kuma and Happ. Lloyd McClendon has said that the 4th spot is Paxton's to lose.

The others will compete for the 5th starter spot. Here's an article from two days ago with quotes: http://m.mariners.mlb.com/news/article/108364400/mariners-righty-taijuan-walker-faces-tough-battle-for-final-rotation-spot

Well, not like I'm not open to offers. I have a pitching surplus after all. I haven't had any inquiries yet!

If James Paxton doesn't make the rotation I'll be devastated. It's the Mariners though, anything could happen.

Post trade please.

It's Greg Bird + Clayton Blackburn for Rodon and a pick. Boxy is doubling down on the OBP machine after drafting him in LOD. I really think Bird is under the radar at the moment, but he's tailor made for fantasy as a lefty with power and OBP skills in Yankee Stadium. Steamer likes Blackburn quite a bit too, although he gets labeled as a mid-rotation ceiling guy. He could be a nice asset in K/BB leagues and he's pitched well while being young for his level.

I recently acquired Blackburn for Garza and he hasn't even played a MiLB game for me, but I am seduced by Rodon's cathedral ceiling.

That's being pretty kind in the analysis I think. Bird is certainly intriguing, but that return seems extremely light.

I'm just pointing out that, at least in my opinion, Bird is getting slept on because he doesn't rank super high in Top 100 lists, mostly because he's a 1B. The dude walked at 15% in his first taste at AA and mashed a 450 ft home run this fall. Nobody paid much attention to Paul Goldschmidt until he kept mashing in the majors, but as we've seen with Freeman and Rizzo, there's definitely such a thing as a good 1B prospect.

I know most people will think this is light, but I love prospects with fantastic plate approaches who can also hit the ball really far. Bird is close to the majors, has a vacancy and IMO could be a better asset than Rodon alone in time. Clayton Blackburn just performs. I have a soft spot for guys who are scorned by the scouting community.

People are sleeping on Blackburn a bit too. KATOH loves him. http://www.hardballtimes.com/katoh-forecasting-major-league-pitching-with-minor-league-stats/

Still not a great trade though. Rodon could have fetched a productive MLB piece. Honestly he probably would have been most of the way to any of Hurl's legit 3B, Longo included.

sigh.

Great ballpark, low walk rate, he's a projection dreamboat. I could definitely envision a scenario where Rodon busts or becomes a reliever and Blackburn has a long, productive career.

I really think Bird can be a .370 OBP guy in the majors. His value is going to spike big time this year if he repeats his AA numbers across a full season.

Nothing wrong with that. Most people don't like a lot of my trades either (often you). I have a tendency to look to give up a return that I think is fair based on my valuations, but often don't take into account the market value of the asset enough. I think you did a bit of that here.

All I'll say is that people might just be looking at prospect lists and leaving it at that. Someone who traded Shelby Miller for Goldy back in 2010 would have been laughed at too.

I would definitely agree with that, but also felt like I'm getting a premium asset that may not be under the radar for much longer. I also want dinger to crush NJH forever.

Woah, when did this happen?

You realize that I'm responsible for like, half of your legit keepers? Do you want me to turn off that pipeline of my leftovers?

I've gotten what I needed. Now is the time for betrayal.

Can someone please remove the duplicate Tyrone Taylor entry on the spreadsheet? Thanks!

Don't love this trade for Boxy from a roster management perspective. Now he'll have to store two prospect on his farm for the next year+, instead of one or zero (Rodon will likely earn the call this season). Those effects add up.

Yeah that's the catch. Otherwise, I like it for Boxy. I really like Blackburn myself and I know how much he likes Bird and I like that he went with his gut and got the players he wanted and didn't worry about theoretical trade value (which rarely lines up with reality anyways).

Exactly, trust your valuations and get the guy you like. I won't even be upset if Bird is a fantasy monster for Boxy... well, unless Rodon busts completely.

Trust your evaluations.... unless you're Boxy. Then defer.
