GD Old-Timey Member Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 I've been quieter in the past couple months for a few reasons. I didn't use my wheel-and-deal approach much because there just aren't many places to improve my team. You didn't even thinly veil this brag, North.
NorthOf49 Old-Timey Member Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 You didn't even thinly veil this brag, North. It's the truth, what else am I going to say. Shortstop and catcher are upgradeable (Lowrie/McCann), but I checked in with elite SS/C (Tulo, Castro, Reyes, Posey, Lucroy, etc.) owners and there wasn't a fit. My other positions are set and I traded some pitching depth to get roster flexibility.
BTS Community Moderator Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 Price Lackey Shields Carrasco Cain Porcello Vargas Not upgradeable.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 Carrasco Price Lackey Shields Cain Porcello Vargas Not upgradeable. fixed
BTS Community Moderator Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 fixed Danny Salazar is the best pitcher in baseball.
NorthOf49 Old-Timey Member Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 fixed Anyone who saw Carlos Carrasco pitch last year knows he's a true ace. The AL had absolutely no answer to Carrasco after he re-joined the rotation in August, and he has three plus-plus pitches. What he can do with a baseball is simply ridiculous. I don't want to upgrade my rotation. I'm probably cutting Vargas and will spent the first half finding the next breakout guys. Going into the season with seven top starters is a missed opportunity.

You of all people would never use this word about a guy who started 14 games last year if he weren't on your fantasy team.

Yeah you're probably right. He doesn't satisfy the durability component, but the stuff/performance is indeed electric.
Laika Community Moderator Posted January 28, 2015 Author Posted January 28, 2015 Carrasco is boom or bust. I think everyone would agree that there's a wide range on his sensible projections. He could be a legit Ace and one of the elite pitchers in baseball (Felix Hernandez peripherals...) or he could be a sort of frustrating #3(ish) guy like Wily Peralta or Zack Wheeler or Liriano. Obviously the injury risk is there too but that exists for every arm. I think the "maybe can't hold up as a SP for 200 innings" gets thrown around way too much for unestablished guys. Most of the guys who "can't hold up" were just straight up not talented enough. Carrasco has the talent - he wasn't even that bad in 2010/11.
Laika Community Moderator Posted January 28, 2015 Author Posted January 28, 2015 To KingKat: OF Curtis Granderson SP Vance Worley To THB: SP Jake Odorizzi This trade comes down to how much you believe in Odorizzi, I guess. I don't really buy into his numbers long term because of the 50 grade FB and inconsistent track record. Granderson was a waiver claim for JB so no sweat for him. But, KK's offense blows so Granderson will add something to it. It's a useful - not-useful piece swap. Worley could easily out ERA and K/BB Odorrizi. Edge KK!
BTS Community Moderator Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 Basically a Worley/Odorizzi challenge trade. I like the Odorizzi side better.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted January 29, 2015 Posted January 29, 2015 Basically a Worley/Odorizzi challenge trade. I like the Odorizzi side better. No part of me trusts Vance Worley at all. I've owned the bad Worley, and it wasn't fun.

I chalk it up to Rick Anderson and forget about it. I'm really struggling with keeping either Worley or Straily for next season in BBDL. Who should I choose?!

Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted January 29, 2015 Posted January 29, 2015 You can do better Boxy. Who is your 7th starter?
BTS Community Moderator Posted January 29, 2015 Posted January 29, 2015 Who is your 7th starter? Dallas Keuchel

Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted January 29, 2015 Posted January 29, 2015 Dallas Keuchel Well that's pretty good.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted January 29, 2015 Posted January 29, 2015 Dallas Keuchel I only have 6 starters at the moment, and one of them is Cliff Lee. Gulp.
BTS Community Moderator Posted January 29, 2015 Posted January 29, 2015 I only have 6 starters at the moment, and one of them is Cliff Lee. Gulp. Dropping one of Buehrle/Chen?
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted January 29, 2015 Posted January 29, 2015 As much as I dislike Worley, I'd ditch Straily. This is all Zach's fault. He found this article that found Straily has like 3 high quality pitches. Him going to the Astros is kind of Interesting.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted January 29, 2015 Posted January 29, 2015 Dallas Keuchel Waino Lester Kuma Kennedy? Fister? Shoemaker? Keuchel I dunno, I think Keuchel might be as high as your SP4.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted January 29, 2015 Posted January 29, 2015 Dropping one of Buehrle/Chen? Probably dropping Buerhle. I don't think Chen is remotely droppable in this format. He's a sneaky mid-rotation guy with that sexy K/BB.
BTS Community Moderator Posted January 29, 2015 Posted January 29, 2015 Waino Lester Kuma Kennedy? Fister? Shoemaker? Keuchel I dunno, I think Keuchel might be as high as your SP4. 2015 I expect the least from Keuchel.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted January 29, 2015 Posted January 29, 2015 PECOTA projections have Cliff Lee as the 2nd most valuable SP in this format for 2015. So that's something.

I pretty much expected you'd be the only one who would support me on this. I was strongly advised against this trade but I went with what my gut tells me about the two pitchers. I had buyer's remorse on Odorizzi pretty much as soon as I acquired him and have shopped him in pretty much every trade scenario that came up but nothing ever really lined up. Cashing him in for two waiver claims looks really bad on paper and no doubt makes Jaysblue very happy but sometimes you lose a little face to (hopefully) win the war.
z3r0s Old-Timey Member Posted January 29, 2015 Posted January 29, 2015 after the JFAS pumping, anyone wanna bite on Straily? HE'S ON THE BLOCK!!

I think you were right to sell off Odorizzi. I'm surprised you couldn't get more (I got Norris + a 1st) but I guess you did your due diligence. Worley is a pretty nice starter in a k/bb league but the fact that he doesn't miss bats particularly well is scary going forward. Hopefully he can maintain last year's command and it wasn't all driven by Russell Martin.

The comforting thing about Worley is that even in 2011 and 2012 he was an above average major league pitcher. 2013 is really the only blip. He's always had a good command profile in the minor leagues too. I like him more in Pittsburgh than, say, Miley in Boston.
NorthOf49 Old-Timey Member Posted January 29, 2015 Posted January 29, 2015 I dropped Worley to pick up Carlos Frias
