jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted February 7, 2014 Posted February 7, 2014 OT Trade Question in a salary league I'm in: I trade: Ian Desmond (8.75 M for 2014 and 2015) I receive: Starlin Castro (9M each season through 2019), Randal Delgado (0.5M and then ARB through 2017), 4th Round Pick (2014), 2nd Round Pick (2015) What do you think? Desmond is a top SS no doubt, though he only has two years of control left and I'm sure he becomes expensive after once he becomes a FA, so he'll be tough to retain. Castro is still only 24 years old, and we all know he's a far better hitter than what he did in 2013. Plus, he's under control through 2019, so my SS position long term is set (unless Baez supplants Castro at SS) and at 9M per season is pretty decent if he regains his previous form. Plus Delgado is a solid arm for depth and I get a couple of picks.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted February 7, 2014 Posted February 7, 2014 If you are middle of the pack/rebuilding team then I'd do it, if you're looking to win this year and next, I'd hold Desmond. Castro can be infuriating to own.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted February 7, 2014 Posted February 7, 2014 This is my team right now. I've made a lot moves since I took over the Blue Jays in September lol. I'm in a tough division though - both the Rays and Red Sox are pretty solid teams. The Rays even have Strasburg and Mike Trout ugh (don't ask me how that happened - the manager of the Angels is stupid haha). Batters: C: Salvador Perez (3.3M 2016 +++) 1B: Eric Hosmer (3.6M 2014, ARB 2017) 2B: Ian Kinsler (13.4M, 2017+) SS: Ian Desmond (8.75M, 2015) 3B: Nick Castellanos - prospect OF: Norichika Aoki 1.5M (2014) OF: Curtis Granderson (8.1M, 2018) OF: Junior Lake (0.5M 2016) (ARB 2017-2019) DH: Billy Butler (10.25M, 2014 +) BN: 2B Danny Espinosa (0.5M 2014, ARB 2017) BN: Darin Ruf (0.5M, 2014) Pitchers: SP: Madison Bumgarner ($9.21M, 2017++) SP: Mat Latos ($7.25M 2014, ARB 2015) SP: Homer Bailey (Arb) SP: Danny Salazar (0.5M 2014-2016) (ARB 2017-2019) SP: Brandon Morrow (4.5M 2014+) SP: Tim Hudson (5.25M 2015) SP: Wily Peralta (0.5M 2014) Bullpen: RP: Sergio Santos (2.63M 2014+++) RP: Drew Storen (3.45M 2014) (Arb 2016) RP: Kelvin Herrera (0.5M) RP: Dustin McGowan (2.75M 2014+) RP: Jose Cisnero (0.5M 2014) Disabled List: DL: [sP] Daniel Hudson (0.5M 2014) I know Castro can be frustrating, though even if he hits like he did in 2011 and 2012, that's still quite solid and I'd be happy. Tough call on what to do. I love Desmond and he's probably the No. 2 shortstop after Tulo in my opinion. Thanks!
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted February 7, 2014 Posted February 7, 2014 There's 8 to 9 SS over Desmond IMO in a league like this. Starlin is one of them. Long term, considering Starlin is younger and is locked up at a decent amount, that's why I'm considering this deal. In a yearly league, or non-salary league, I'd obviously choose Desmond over Starlin. If Castro reverts back to his 2011 and 2012 form, then I'd definitely be happy and he still has room for potential growth as well. So do the deal?
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted February 7, 2014 Posted February 7, 2014 Is this a 30 team league? If so, your rotation is awesome. I'd personally be more inclined to add an OF with some power and make a run this year, although I'm not a very patient person.

I'd personally be more inclined to add an OF with some power and make a run this year, although I'm not a very patient person. You've by far had the best offseason in the FC league. You got some great bargains, and look poised to be a top dog! It's a 30 team league yes. Thanks I even had Andrew Cashner, Jon Niese, Francisco Liriano, RA Dickey and Alexi Ogando in that rotation at one point as well haha. I moved Cashner and Liriano and Sanchez in a deal for Bautista and Salazar and Lake, and then moved Bautista and Lawrie in a deal for Hosmer and Perez. I traded Stroman to land Casty for third base. I definitely want to upgrade one of my OF spots I use on Lake, though it's a 100M cap, and right now I'm at 106M so I have to pull out some magic to land a young top OF with some pop making a low salary
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted February 7, 2014 Posted February 7, 2014 Thanks! I'm still a Tulowitzki short of matching your offense, but I'm just aiming to make the playoffs, we all know anything can happen in a one week series.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted February 7, 2014 Posted February 7, 2014 Still do the deal? D'Backs sign Bronson Arroyo, so that means bye bye to Delgado likely.

I'm still a Tulowitzki short of matching your offense, but I'm just aiming to make the playoffs, we all know anything can happen in a one week series. Anythings possible. I didn't have Braun and Stanton in the playoffs; Kemp was nonexistent for me the entire season. Interested in Zobrist as a SS?
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted February 7, 2014 Posted February 7, 2014 Yes I would be, shoot me an email.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted February 9, 2014 Posted February 9, 2014 Sign up KK! You have 48 hours until we find a replacement owner. O.K. I'm in. Is it too late to make a roster change?
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted February 9, 2014 Posted February 9, 2014 Nope, the deadline isn't for like another week IIRC.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted February 9, 2014 Posted February 9, 2014 Nope, the deadline isn't for like another week IIRC. O.K. I'm going to swap out Parra for Arroyo. I like Parra a lot more than I like Arroyo but I need a mediocre starting pitcher more than I need a good middle reliever.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted February 9, 2014 Posted February 9, 2014 I'm in London on an iPad/wifi right now Spanky.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted February 9, 2014 Posted February 9, 2014 Then Paris, Copenhagen, Reykjavik

You need to trim your roster down to 20.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted February 9, 2014 Posted February 9, 2014 I posted a roster in this thread before I went on Vacation.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted February 9, 2014 Posted February 9, 2014 Swap Parra and Arroyo and that's it. Taking a flight to Arizona in a few hours. After a flurry of pre-vacation moves, I've finalized my roster. Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted February 9, 2014 Posted February 9, 2014 Kat, I can't edit the spreadsheet on my iPad so you will want to post that on the pro board so NJH or BTS can find it.

A couple of breakouts + some good adds and maybe you can finish as high as 16th or so...... in 2016. On that note, If I were you I would keep Didi and cut Chavez.
Sammy225 Old-Timey Member Posted February 9, 2014 Posted February 9, 2014 I sent my 20 man roster to both Dinger and NJH because i did not know who wanted it.

Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted February 9, 2014 Posted February 9, 2014 Didi is s***, f*** him. Pop Alex Guerrero in the waiver draft, he has SS eligibility or some reason.
Sammy225 Old-Timey Member Posted February 9, 2014 Posted February 9, 2014 Here is the list of my cuts so that people can start prepping for the Waiver draft: Brad Ziegler Brian Roberts Charlie Furbush Chris Young Cliff Pennington Dee Gordon J.P Arencebi....who gives a f*** Jason Vargas Jeff Francoeur Josh Reddick Kyle Kendrick Nick Tepesch Stephen Fife.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted February 9, 2014 Posted February 9, 2014 Didi is s***, f*** him. Pop Alex Guerrero in the waiver draft, he has SS eligibility or some reason. Ummmmmm....I kinda doubt that Guerrero's offensive ceiling is that much higher than Gregorius'.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted February 9, 2014 Posted February 9, 2014 I sent my 20 man roster to both Dinger and NJH because i did not know who wanted it. I won't have access to the google doc before the deadline so head commish will have to handle it.

Laika Community Moderator Posted February 9, 2014 Author Posted February 9, 2014 (edited) I believe all recent cuts have been made on the spread. Cuts made: Dinger No49 KingKat Havok Sammy BTS Boxy TCA FTD Still have to make cuts (one week left): Realmin Hurl GP JF Zeros TOfan silvergun speedygose spanky jaysblue fearless leader Reminder that all cuts once posted anywhere are final, and the enforcement of this rule is doled out at my (and Dinger/BTS') discretion. Only two managers currently has an excess prospect (Jays Fever and Silvergun, in case someone was looking to acquire a penny stock before the season starts). We f***ed up somewhere because silvergun and speedygose both are listed with waiver pick #88, so some clarification there would be kewl. Please check your rosters for any errors and discrepancies. Administration note: if you have 6 waiver picks and you submit a cutdown roster of 20 names, then your 6th pick immediately vanishes into the ether. To use the extra pick, you would have to only keep 19 dudes. Edited February 10, 2014 by Laika
