Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted May 12, 2013 Posted May 12, 2013 I disagree. 25-yo lefty with 9+ K/9 and a ~3.65 xFIP over his last 200 innings. This is pretty much verbatim what I wrote to Boxy in a trade negotiation 3 days ago.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted May 12, 2013 Posted May 12, 2013 This is pretty much verbatim what I wrote to Boxy in a trade negotiation 3 days ago. I seem to be the guinea pig for lopsided trade proposals.
Laika Community Moderator Posted May 12, 2013 Author Posted May 12, 2013 ERA is a category in this league Of course it's a category. You're still wrong though. For some perturbed reason you think that past ERA is more predictive of future ERA than DIPS is, because all of a sudden fantasy baseball is a different thing or whatever, some asinine theater where past DIPS is worthy of the trash can and an ERA sample the size of one or two seasons is king s***.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted May 12, 2013 Posted May 12, 2013 Pretty close, actually: "I won't try to push Doubront on you, I don't mind keeping him at all. He's a 25 year old lefty who's posting 10+ K/9 as a starter and struck out a batter per inning last year as a starter. Just my opinion, but I think he'll strike out 200 this year and barely get noticed. I didn't even look at his velo, it's irrelevant at his age."
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted May 12, 2013 Posted May 12, 2013 I seem to be the guinea pig for lopsided trade proposals. You're not a believer in Doubront either, and fair enough. Apparently that makes 3 of us. In fairness to me, he got lit the f*** up again since then. He's got some things going for him, but rotation security certainly isn't one of them.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted May 12, 2013 Posted May 12, 2013 I believe that nothing makes sense. I remember talking about how I thought Hellickson would increase his K's by close to a K a game (similar to his home rates from last year), which in turn would bring his FIP closer to the ERA. Well it's happening and the FIP and ERA are really close...but not exactly what I meant. FB speed is down 1.4 MPH and he's barely throwing the cutter

For some perturbed reason you think that past ERA is more predictive of future ERA than DIPS is. I don't think that at all, I just don't believe that every pitcher's ERA will regress towards their FIP in an expedient manner. I think Doubront, given enough innings, splits the difference between the two, and I still don't think that's good enough to play in this league. I also don't think his leash is long enough to get there.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted May 12, 2013 Posted May 12, 2013 No49: I'm interested in Doubront. message me if you want to move him. He's on waivers; make a claim.

Mea culpa on the 200 Ks, that was certainly pushing the boundaries of defensible judgement. He'd have to pitch 180+ IP to get there and he doesn't go deep enough into games or have the job security.

Definitely not much more than a back end SP right now. But he's still an upgrade at some SP slot for like, 95% of the league. I get trading him for a good Holds guy if you have the depth. But I just don't get handing someone the extra value in the picks. I don't care though so lets stop talking about this don't even respond plz just let me have the last word k.

TheHurl Site Manager Posted May 12, 2013 Posted May 12, 2013 I'd like to have my say on the Doubront trade too...
TheHurl Site Manager Posted May 12, 2013 Posted May 12, 2013 So... how about Wade Davis? bargain deal.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted May 12, 2013 Posted May 12, 2013 But I just don't get handing someone the extra value in the picks. Actually, the deal was principally Pestano for picks. Doubront was functionally a cut, for both of us as it turns out. Sadly, he just doesn't offer as much as Kazmir or Lackey right now, and I actually like Tepesch slightly more ROS. I don't think that's a particularly strong 5/6/7, so I'd probably disagree that 19/20 teams could upgrade an SP spot with Doubront, especially since I cut him, No49 cut him, and even rebuilding Boxy wouldn't touch him.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted May 12, 2013 Posted May 12, 2013 So... how about Wade Davis? I liked that deal at the time. So it goes. Hopefully he can f*** off and die so the Yordano Ventura era can begin.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted May 12, 2013 Posted May 12, 2013 I'm guessing a few waiver requests were cancelled on Smith
TheHurl Site Manager Posted May 12, 2013 Posted May 12, 2013 Being violated by Gibbers is pretty uncomfortable. it's the nightstick
Laika Community Moderator Posted May 12, 2013 Author Posted May 12, 2013 it's the nightstick Makes no sense, unless he's going handle deep. Nightsticks are so smooth.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted May 12, 2013 Posted May 12, 2013 Christ, I'm trying to sell Dempster and it got buried by a dumn 5 million page discussion on f***ing Felix Doubront. DEMPSTER + PICK 37 OR DELINO DESHIELDS FOR YOUR YOUNGER, POSSIBLY NOT ACTIVE, NOT YET QUITE AS GOOD, DEMPSTER-ISH GUY.

DEMPSTER + PICK 37 OR DELINO DESHIELDS FOR YOUR YOUNGER, POSSIBLY NOT ACTIVE, NOT YET QUITE AS GOOD, DEMPSTER-ISH GUY. Do you need to pull the trigger tonight? Slow-play it, bro. Someone will need pitching at the deadline. Not everyone posts here, send a league blast if you really want to shop him.

Need to lose a pick and a prospect, or both second rounders before that, so I need to sell fairly soon.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted May 12, 2013 Posted May 12, 2013 You probably shouldn't point out to everybody how you've painted yourself into a corner and need to make a move. That hurts your leverage considerably.

Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted May 12, 2013 Posted May 12, 2013 MVP: Jesse Winker LVP: Victor Martinez

jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted May 12, 2013 Posted May 12, 2013 Guys, I'm looking to package d'Arnaud for a pitching upgrade to my MLB roster. Also, looking to move some young pieces like Mike Olt, Avasail Garcia, and Jacob Turner.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted May 12, 2013 Posted May 12, 2013 MVP: Bumgarner (18 Ks) *******: Andrew Miller (picked him up for a one-day holds play and he scorched me)
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted May 12, 2013 Posted May 12, 2013 Dammit, I could have gotten another pick out of this! Anyway, I picked up Jordan Lyles for Doubront. Lyles has a 4.07 xFIP in 245.1 IP and is 22 years old, I like him a lot better. Ouuuuuuuch, Lyles getting lit up today. 8 earnies already thru 4 IP.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted May 12, 2013 Posted May 12, 2013 Who would have started Lyles vs. the Rangers?
Arjun Nimmala Vancouver Canadians - A+ SS It's been slow going at the start of the season for Nimmala, but on Sunday, he was 3-for-5 with his 3rd home run and 3 RBI. Explore Arjun Nimmala News >
