Jays Verified Member Posted May 6, 2013 Posted May 6, 2013 Rotoinfo says Lawrie is a bit banged up, but shouldn't miss more than a day. Let's hope they're more reliable than the Jays front office.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted May 6, 2013 Posted May 6, 2013 Hopefully he is back tomorrow. His D is so important to this team. I guess you could say that Chappy.. *puts on sunglasses* Wants Lawrie's D. http://www.myinstants.com/instant/yeah/ I'm terrible lol

JohnnyLonghorn Verified Member Posted May 7, 2013 Posted May 7, 2013 Is it just me or has Lawrie been late on the fast ball? Seems like he's fouling off tons of FBs towards RF, maybe an indicator he isn't getting the barrel of the bat out in front of the pitch soon enough.

He looks completely lost out there and it doesn't appear to be getting any better. Thankfully the D is SO good.
JohnnyLonghorn Verified Member Posted May 7, 2013 Posted May 7, 2013 He's unquestionably a plus defender but I wish he'd settle down more. No need to leap 3 feet in the air for line drives at eye level, or to try to bare hand every chopper down the third base line. Gotta love the effort he gives you on each and every play though.
z3r0s Old-Timey Member Posted May 7, 2013 Posted May 7, 2013 anyone else frustrated watching Lawrie's feet when he swings at a ball away. He's really swatting at them to the point that he opens up as he does it. I really wish he would just get through those balls. He does it some times and the swing looks good.
Metallijay Verified Member Posted May 7, 2013 Posted May 7, 2013 Batting lawrie leadoff makes no sense....

fatcowxlive Old-Timey Member Posted May 7, 2013 Posted May 7, 2013 Lawrie actually laid off some outside borderline pitches last game that lead to his walks. Was quite impressed, but who knows if that will continue. The whole team is slowing down at the plate.... Chad Motolla paying off?

Mottola will get him squared away once he's fixed Colby.
Caper Verified Member Posted May 7, 2013 Posted May 7, 2013 It seems like there are a lot of moving parts to his swing.... Never really seems to drive the ball... Almost like he his getting under it a bit to much.

Colby has been better the last games, as has been almost everyone on the team. even saturday, the team had better AB but just couldn't get that 1 big hit when they needed it. things are changing. it's just taking time. I still think a lot of it has to do with the lack of quality in ST. too many lazy days for the vets and running a bunch of guys who they already knew were never going to make the team. Jays are just now getting up to speed. that's on ownership and Gibbons.

o2cui2i Community Moderator Posted May 7, 2013 Posted May 7, 2013 I agree it's strange the team was so bad after ST, that indeed is on the staff. other teams starters where getting 4-5AB almost every day. our stars never travelled, so all they got was cage work, which is NOT the same. the starters pitched simulated games or A ball games. that is not the same as facing top hitters in a real game environment. so the bats came into the season slow, the pitchers came in with pitch limits and the defense was all over the place. it's only the last few games where we can see them getting close to what they should have been April 1st.

That explains such a bad start, everyones timing seemed off, that's a major coaching error imo.

Gibbons runs the routine he's been told to. I doubt he had much say.

Hemingways007 Verified Member Posted May 7, 2013 Posted May 7, 2013 Let's continue this winning streak! I have noticed that the bats have been a bit more selective recently. Hopefully they continue being selective with their pitches.
