I read the article right around the time it was posted (it facilitated a bit of a stir between Tom Tango and the hockey analytics community). Skinny commented on it, and it's a good point:

 

The post says that while the Leafs % of shots close in is lower than most of the league, their raw #s, the more important information there, are not. They're terrible.

 

This post is fraught with constantly changing between raw #s and %s and not understanding the important differences between them.

 

I get what Phil was trying to determine (and I find most of his work impressive, especially baseball and general statistics work), but I haven't been impressed by his hockey stuff.
