What an epic collapse from the Leafs. So enjoyable to watch.

Pretty hilarious to think that the Leafs have 13M committed annually (almost 20% of current cap) to David Clarkson and Dion Phaneuf over the next SEVEN years. If Kessel breaks down, they're going to be incredibly financially inflexible.

 

That is horrendously reckless spending.

I still can't believe will have a $7M cap hit from ages 29-35. That's so bad.

 

I just don't know how a GM could commit seven years to David Clarkson. He had 30 goals in 2011 I guess...? But other than that the guy has averaged 30 points over his career.

 

Like that's just ridiculous.

Yeah, that's the impression I've had. There's a good core there with Ladd, Wheeler, Little, Kane, Schieifele, and the big 3 on the back end. They just really need a goalie. And probably a top-6 C to combine with Little/Scheifele. I really though they should have went after a Greiss/Khudobin/Bishop when they were available last year.

 

I've maintained for years that Reimer is a great fit there. Winnipeg boy and probably a #1 goalie. Wonder what they'd give. I love Reimer but it'd make me really happy seeing him in a much better situation for him.

 

King, what would you send for Reimer?

That's what everyone seems to think and it's pretty evident by Pavelecs sub average play. But Hey, He's locked in for the next 3 seasons after this with a cap hit of $3.9m, so that's fantastic! Terrible contract...

 

I'm not a huge fan of what Cheveldayoff has done with contract situation. He locked in Grant Clitsome (Bottom pairing defenseman) for 3 years at a cap hit of $2m after plucking him off the waiver wire from Columbus...and Mark Stuart (another bottom pairing defenseman) to a 4 year deal at a $2.625m cap hit.. Did I mention he has yet to make a player for player trade since becoming an NHL GM?

 

Hey! I don't mind Stuart. He is one of the better defensive d-man on our team. I think we need Buff gone. He should have been gone at the deadline. I love the core with Scheif, Ladd, Wheeler, Truba, Bogo, Kane I think they need another top 6 Centerman. Nothing against Little he is just does not seem very consistent. And of course we need to upgrade the Goalie position which will be hard given s*** heads contract.

Teammate FF%: 51.0%

Opposition FF%: 49.8%

 

Meanwhile, Byfuglien's stats (since 2010 when he switched to D; same situation):

 

FF%: 52.9%

Teammate FF%: 48.6%

Opposition FF%: 50.0%

 

It would be an unwise move by the Jets to keep Stuart and trade Byfuglien.

Young studs that don't get the credit they deserve: Brandon Saad, Logan Couture, Vlad Tarensenko, and Andrew Shaw.

 

On what planet does Logan Couture not get credit? Actually, all of those guys are pretty much universally recognized as very, very good young players by the people I talk to. Except maybe Shaw but I know Blackhawk fans like him.

Trust me, he gets enough credit lol. He's very much treated as one of the best young players in the game today. Maybe we talk to different people, lol.

 

My metric wRD+ (which doesn't involve shooting skill yet) has Tarasenko as the best player in the game. Followed by Thornton, Kopitar, Erikkson, and Couture.
