Interesting indeed. While a third line player shouldn't make a huge difference if the team wins or loses, maybe the line doesn't get as many scoring chances to kind of get the rest of the team going. But it's not like the first two lines should be affected.

Don't read into it. Last time I did the "saber" stats, he was just behind Kadri and Kessel as best on the leafs.

 

Just looking at some stats, I didn't realize his Corsi was that high. I just don't see him as a good player while I'm watching a game. But it's probably my bias because of the contract and lack of production.

I wouldn't say clear choices. All 3 are pretty close.

Agreed. Suboptimal choice but it's not like the rest of the team is optimal. As a St Louis fan, I'm hoping he gets to dress and doesn't end up as an extra forward.

It will be a huge waste of draft picks if they let him go, but that amount is ridiculous. If the Leafs can't sign him to a reasonable deal I can't see any team giving up anything of significance for a third line center who's up for free agency.
