Sid sixeiro says that Alfonso Soriano would be a fit for the Jays. I have no idea where he would even come up with that, like the Jays don't have enough guys who can only hit HR, don't walk, strike out a ton and not get on base, let alone his contract for next year.

Listening to Sid about baseball is none to smart.

Potentially concerning news for Boston in trying to avoid ending up in the wild card game(if Tampa topples them in the AL East):

Rob Bradford

‏@bradfo

Buchholz said still sore during bullpen session yest. No plan for rehab start right now. Will reassess after break

They need him to get healthy--Lackey's the only starter with an ERA under 3(how?), and most of their starters this season have been hit-or-miss, with WHIPs close to 1.40. Losing Buchholz for more time could cost Boston the division, and possibly a playoff spot if Baltimore, Texas and Tampa Bay remain strong. And don't rule out Cleveland/Detroit either.

Boston leads in runs--but will they keep this up in the 2nd half, and stay healthy?

David Ortiz "everytime I see Machado he already is on second base."

"Davis, Machado, Lawrie, Myers will dominate the AL East"

Our Brett Lawrie? By Dominate does he mean destroy all the umpires with his Red Bull rage?

Would the Yankees suppress A-Rod's playing time so that he can't collect his HR bonuses [as quickly]?

Alex will get $6M each for his 660th, 714th, 755th, 762nd, and 763rd career homers.

He's currently at 647.

Why on earth would they do that? Plate appeances okday, but something productive? What's the point.

He'll probably average about 20HR a year for the next few years. Take him a few years to get to 714 anyways.

Man, what a contract. I wish they suffered more because of it, but really it doesn't even matter to them. Well I guess it's starting

to show, but I wish it really crippled them even more.

That Rajai one is pretty hilarious. His head turns and he looks further and further away from the ball as he takes his idiotic swing at a pitch you couldn't hit with a 12 foot pole. By the time his's looking bstratight up I think it's because he realizes how ridiculous it was to swing at it.

To be fair on the Colby one he may have been helping protect the runner...

Let's time I checked $6 million is a lot of dough... even for the Yankees.

Pirates Targeting Rios; May Have Interest In Ramirez

By Steve Adams [July 18 at 11:30pm CST]

The Pirates own the second-best record in all of baseball but find themselves in second place in their own division thanks to the Cardinals. Seeking to bolster their lineup for the season's second half, Jon Heyman of CBS Sports reports that GM Neal Huntington has his sights set on Alex Rios and may be interested in Alexei Ramirez as well.

Pirates right fielders have combined to hit .235/.309/.394 this season and played below replacement level as a whole, according to Fangraphs, thanks to poor defense and baserunning. Rios would obviously serve as a massive upgrade for the final two and a half months, as he's hitting .270/.326/.429 with strong defense and baserunning. However, as Heyman notes, the $18MM that he is guaranteed through next season is steep for the Pirates, who opened the season with a payroll just under $67MM.

Speaking of which, Travis Snider is quietly putting up an absolutely atrocious season over there

249 PA

26.5% K rate

.226 BA

.277 wOBA

.332 slugging

3 HR

22 RBI

Negative 0.4 WAR

Wow, what a bust. So much for a fresh start.

Pretty much guaranteeing that he gets himself non-tendered this year.

Jeter's return has a setback:

@JonHeymanCBS: #yankees say jeter goes to15-day DL (retroactive to july 12)

And at the worst possible time--they've got a make-or-break stand coming up with the Red Sox, Rangers, Rays, and Dodgers coming up. Lose these series, and the Yankees will almost certainly miss the playoffs for the first time since 2008, likely costing Cashman and Girardi their jobs in the process.

Boston can't sit pretty either--they've got New York, Tampa and Baltimore next--two of which are AL East contenders who would like to see Boston miss the playoffs.
