  1. There are a lot of good changes that can be made as long as both sides are reasonable. MLBPA's recommendation for the luxury tax increase seems like a joke. I could see that being the biggest issue.
  2. I just have a feeling that Stripling will surprise many of us and take the 5th spot in his contract year. I understand he was pretty bad to start the year but he was pitching pretty well near the end of the season before getting hurt. Take a look at his numbers from May 24 to August 10. He made some changes to his delivery and it was effective. There was a legit debate at that time who will take the 5th spot between him and Matz. Stripling got hurt and Matz went onto to lock that spot down. Could have easily gone the other way had Matz got hurt and Stripling stayed healthy.
  3. I agree with this. I'd rather find a Semien replacement than worry about a Matz replacement. One clearly leaves a gaping hole while the other can be patched up like it was last year or maybe even Stripling/Pearson can surprise us.
  4. Tampa and the A's have set themselves on a whole different level when it comes to doing this. I understand we don't need an allstar at every position, which is why I'm good with Espinal/Biggio platooning at 2B. Our management has said their plan is to get better and you don't downgrade from a top 3 MVP candidate who also won the gold glove to Moreno unless it's extremely obvious he's about to rake offensively and defensively at the big league level. If that were the case, I'm sure Moreno would have been called up for at least a few games like Kirk was the year before. We had a gaping hole at 3B when Biggio/Espinal went down so I'm just extremely skeptical that Moreno is ready to be our opening day 3rd baseman. Im really confident that we will land a big fish for the infield. Still lots off time left until opening day to make it happen.
  5. Damn... good for Stroman. Guess he wins the offseason lol
  6. I think we should stop placing so much importance on prospects contributing to the big club until they've actually shown something there. People were including Pearson as part of their starting rotation last year and we all know how that worked out. It's fine to do that when you're rebuilding and not looking to win a world series but we've past that stage. When and if Moreno is THAT good, we can figure it out at that point. Until then, you don't downgrade from Semien to Smith without realizing you just got MUCH worse. Ideally we fill 3B and let Biggio/Espinal platoon 2B.
  7. Aren't the Cubs cutting costs in every conceivable way? Maybe they're just signing to eventually trade him lol.
  8. Exactly... we are going for the world series from the start this year. No more kid gloves with half a season of Biggio at 3B or starting the season with a piss poor bullpen. While you can debate the overly patient approach, those inactions cost us a chance to make the playoffs and possibly win a world series last year. So for this season, we're not going to have mediocre stop gaps like Smith starting while we wait for Moreno. It's go time baby lol.
  9. Exactly, at that price range it made more sense to bring back Semien who plays a position of need rather than a guy who plays the same position as your best player.
  10. I love the 2 division alignment with 12 teams making the playoffs. Leads to a more balanced schedule and still rewards division winners. $240M Luxury tax only penalizes like a couple of teams... it should be a lot lower than that lol.
  11. The answer to that comment is right below your post lol
  12. Would have been a great 5th starter for us
  13. I was legitimately expecting us to get one of the big SS's from this class. I thought that guy would have been Semien but I'd be pretty disappointed if we don't make another major move to get someone. Guess we might have to wait until after this upcoming lockout.
  14. Think a more realistic scenario for us could be Donaldson (Twins eating some salary there) and Schwarber.
  15. Damn man... Valera went from pinch hitting for Kirk to getting released. Seems like a disconnect between our manager and Shatkins lol.
  16. What has Smith shown to get the starting nod over Espinal at 3B? Espinal starts over him easily but preferably I would want Espinal to be our backup utility IF and platoon with Biggio at 2B.
  17. Jays are trying to win in 2022 and I doubt they're ok with Biggio at 3rd if they're actually serious about that. The only starting position for Biggio is 2B on this team imo. He is backup level everywhere else on the diamond. I'm super confident the Jays will add a major IF.
  18. Exactly, Rays have a track record of trading their players when they get expensive. I don't see that changing.
  19. Exactly how I felt. I really enjoyed the villain role at times when we were beating the crap out of teams. Don't gotta be nice all the time lol.
  20. Does not matter one bit. The 2015 will always be one of my favourites. I actually enjoy players who have fire even if it can cross the line on the field at times.
  21. That we go... let's get this man!!!
  22. Maybe getting both might be a stretch but we definitely need one of them and preferably Bryant as it's better to have the DH spot open. Im pretty sure our 5th starter will be a cheap reclamation project like Matz was or we just roll the dice with Stripling/Pearson.
  23. Totally agree... there's 0 chance that you from Semien to Biggio and try to think the team gets better or even relatively the same. I'm confident we will make a significant add to 2B/3B
  24. He OWES us man! He should have signed that deal here
  25. Because anything that discourages tanking is a better system than one that doesn't? Even the nba system isn't perfect and they've tweaked that many times. They've flattened the odds for all non playoff teams
