    Ya i got no clue who will be the better player down the road without knowing their work ethic, potential and various other factors. I just dont agree with saying Roden cant be really good based on his extremely short sample size when the entire management team was head over heels for him during Spring Training.

    Hope people realize that many good/great players struggle in their first stint in the big leagues. Its how they go down and come back up is what usually defines their careers. Roden was fast tracked to the big league team due to the team really needing some offensive output. It just happened to come from Barger who was in his position last year. It's extremely early to write anything off about him regardless of his age. There was a reason why the organization was salivating over him during Spring Trainining.

    If everything goes according to plan and he starts after 1 more rehab start... it'll almost reach the David Price level of excitement for me. Probably not so much for casuals though.

    I'm happy we took the chance with Bieber but not happy that we didnt get a true backend reliever thats better than Hoffman. He is not good enough to be your best reliever. It would have been nice to get a middle of the order or leadoff bat but I trust in the guys coming back can provide the punch needed. Basically Santandar better come back this year at a good level because we'll need that power threat in the playoffs.

    I'm happy as hell with the move because there was no other starting pitcher available to do what Bieber can do. I am obviously trusting he'll be 100% healthy and ready to contribute to the big league team very soon. Atkins pretty much just said this so let's hope and pray it stays that way.

    Kind of unfair to only look at it like that. How is Hoffman doing in non save situations? Its his overall performance that should be measured, not just save opportunities since these type of relievers are asked to do more than just that.

    And im sure you know he was offended when they tried to renegotiate his salary afterwards and came to the Jays afterwards. Its part of why he said he had something to prove against those teams. Again, my point was that this front office doesnt have a big track record of investing heavily on the bullpen. It doesnt mean that cant change but was just stating my 2 cents.

    Jays Talk Plus has a 4 hour show, followed by Blair and Barker for a couple of hours too.

    No it means he doesnt prioritize elite bullpen arms. Before Hoffman, Green was the biggest bullpen investment they made and that was because we got him after his majory injury. I also cant believe you choose to get offended when I made a generic comment. It doesnt mean he still cant do it, was just giving my 2 cents based on his track record. Hope you wear kneepads and wipe your face after Atkins gets done with you lol.

    Ya I think we need a true elite bullpen arm. Hoffman is better than his numbers show but hes also hasn't been good enough to be that guy. I just dont see this front office making it happen. Hoffman literally landed in our lap after 2 failed physicals for them to get that type of arm.

    Crazy part is that we need him to be good enough down the stretch where he opts out after the year. If he opts in then that means he didnt deliver this season. Very risky move for a team looking for certainty. They must be 100% sold on his rehab so I cant wait to see him with the big club.

    The ultimate risk to trust your playoff run on a guy coming off a major injury and can leave at the end of the season. We can look really stupid here. BUT, we can look like geniuses if Bieber comes back this season and is his regular self, and we're able to lock him into any type of extension.

    It is unreal the amount of trades the Padres have made the past several years. I am always in the camp of "proven MLB players >>> prospects" and they do a great job of that. It just sucks for them that they share a division with the Dodgers lol.

    Manoah was hard to trust even when he was fully healthy. Hes coming off a major injury so trusting him to be part of a tight pennant race was always wishful thinking. At best he can join the bullpen this year and go for a starter job next year. Or maybe we have injuries to some starters and he's our SP7.
