  1. Still don't know any details, but would be sad if it had any parallels to the accident that cost Oscar Taveras his life. Que Descanse En Paz.
  2. Now and forever known as the...
  3. No, he's on the ineligible list for all of 2020. If he and Luhnow and Hinch violate the terms of this suspension in any way, they were be permanently ineligible (barred for life, basically).
  4. I like the idea of powder blue alternates!
  5. Oh, and for all the talk of the injury risk, remember that the Dodgers signed him from the KBO knowing that he had a torn labrum. And then he pitched with that injury for two years. But now he is finally 100% after missing the 2 seasons by going through full rehab. And in the time since he's been 100%—mid 2018 through the 2019 season—he has been excellent.
  6. You know, I fully expected the Blue Jays to kick the can down the road again this season and wait for the Yankees and Red Sox to age out/become financially bloated in the next couple years, and by then also hoping the Rays would have to to reset given that they can't afford their players past 3 years. Instead they sign Ryu! They're seeing the obvious: the Yankees will never be 'a little worse' (because of their money), that the Rays have perpetually figured out how to remain competitive, and that the Red Sox with Chaim Bloom in charge will get their money in order and be a powerhouse again. So Shatkins is focusing instead on being 'the best we can be,' without waiting for the division to tell them when. They've got a great group of young hitters and now with all the lottery tickets in AAAA SP depth, an ace in Ryu, and some horses to eat innings, this season will be much more competitive. Can't wait for Opening Day!
  7. Will be very interesting. That's why I'm not sweating the holes in our bullpen right now.
  8. College players, especially pitchers, have never been better, so that might be the case for all teams this year. And with the rise of technology in college baseball programs, there's more to base the scouting reports on.
  9. I'd vote him in. Unfortunately the HOF has more to do with fame than actual merit (cf. Dick_Pole's point about Vizquel over Lofton). Wouldn't be surprised to see him fall off this year with less than 5%. Would be very sad, as he was always one of my favourites, and my fondness for him only increased when I started playing Fantasy (he was a lock for at least 20-20 and a good average).
  10. If only... Instead MLB wants to use technology to rid sign-stealing from the Earth. The commissioner's office is actually developing some sort of wearable device to encode pitcher-catcher communication. They're also thinking about using lights in the mound. https://sports.yahoo.com/mlb-discussing-on-field-wearable-technology-to-prevent-sign-stealing-185641614.html
  11. They are both suspect to me now that we have better defensive metrics to factor into WAR (like OAA).
  12. What the in the world... Let's not use the word spic. He talks like a man with a weak chin would, that's for sure, and even injures himself moving bathroom furniture like a man with a weak chin would. (No offence to those of you with weak chins.)
  13. Yah, Stroman's face, for example, was burined underneath the brim of his cap.
  14. I think Lindor has a chance to be a top 3 WAR leader again at the end of the 2020s.
  15. As we say goodbye to the 2010s, here are MLB's WAR leaders this decade. Are you guys surprised by any of the names up here?
  16. I like Odorizzi, he had a good year. He does pitch in the AL Central, the worst division in baseball, but at 30 years old he's now had six years of at least 143 innings pitched. His strikeout rate has gone up, his velocity has gone up, and it's not just like some fluke spike year we've seen before, because in this day and age you can figure things out, you can work with your pitch designers and get better. He looks like one of those guys who've figured it out.
  17. Dodgers
  18. https://www.cbc.ca/strombo/news/20-years-ago-today-the-toronto-blue-jays-won-their-first-world-series-champ I can't find anything to verify your claim of a million in attendance for the '93 parade, but the CBC says it was just 250k for the '92 parade, so...
  19. I wish it were not true, but he's right... Young people have a shorter attention span, so they prefer fast-paced sports like basketball. And the amount of rules in baseball, as well as the constant references to its long history, might alienate 'ethnic people.' Basketball is just more intuitive. But a parade is a parade. And girls love the Blue Jays (and so the boys will follow), especially when they're winning, and it'll be an Instagram-able event, blowing up all over social media. Still, it's hard to say... I could see a million if the weather is mild enough.
  20. I say he comes into Spring Training at 220-something pounds.
  21. Rebuild has only just begun, my friend. Still have to build up pitching depth—not enough to have just a staff of 5 these days, need a deep pipeline of pitching for when injuries inevitably occur.
  22. WASHINGTON—Describing the French Canadian municipality as a “world-class city,” Nationals players admitted Thursday that their World Series win would be way sweeter if the franchise stilled played in Montréal. “We’ve never really considered D.C. our home, and we all grew up bleeding Expos blue,” said World Series MVP Stephen Strasburg, speaking in French while lovingly referencing Montréal’s architecture, cosmopolitan culture, and its “incredible cuisine.” “The first thing we did when we got back to the locker room was sing Québec’s anthem. Man, could you imagine driving our parade floats down Catherine Street? It’s great to finally get a ring, but it’ll be a little bittersweet to celebrate with a bunch of D.C. bureaucrats who are just looking for something to do.” At press time, Strasburg admitted to taking some solace in winning a World Series without Bryce Harper.
  23. You don't like Major League 2? Blasphemy!
