    NHL Thread

I don't even follow hockey, but came across this somehow and couldn't help but smile
  2. Random trivia: 100 years ago today, the Negro National League was founded. The NNL was the first Negro league to last more than one season. And, in fact, from 1924 through 1927, the NNL winner met the champion of the rival Eastern Colored League in the Colored World Series (!), with the NNL winning three out of four. With the Great Depression the NNL had to shut down, but the league came back in 1937 as the Negro American League. Then 10 years later an NAL player named Jackie Robinson broke MLB's colour barrier. https://www.ajc.com/news/negro-leagues-opened-door-players-who-would-change-baseball-forever/Ljxp6BYX8HfT9X8Vtly8bL/
  3. Anybody read the latest on this from The Athletic? Apparently Carlos Beltran was the "Godfather" in the sign-stealing campaign. When Beltran joined the team in 2017 after three seasons with the Yankees, he told the organization its sign-stealing methods were "behind the times." When Astros players tried to put a stop to the cheating, Beltran steamrolled everybody, according to an anonymous team member. "Where do you go if you're a young, impressionable player with the Astros and this guy says, 'We're doing this'? What do you do?"
  4. Here is the TL;DR for everyone interested:
  5. It can’t be that hard to find a girl in Florida.
  6. I don't understand the argument (Jim's, not yours), because even if a small percentage of people in parking lots are beating off in the middle of the afternoon—and for whatever reason we're now including libraries and hospitals—how does that make it okay? Like, what is your point?
  7. First you say sex in a car happens all the time (it does, but this wasn't that), then it's masturbating in parking lots happens all the time, and now everyone is masturbating in libraries, hospitals, and even my office. Get a hold of yourself. You can barely keep up with your need to defend this nonsense, pivoting every which way until you find your hill to die on.
  8. Masturbating in a car at 2 PM in a busy public parking lot goes on all the time? Maybe where you're from, Jim... maybe where you're from. Dude... feel sorry for the woman who had to phone it in to the cops.
  9. He had more than a shot at the HOF. He would have been a second-or-third ballot guy based not just on career numbers, but also on his reputation. He was arguably the most revered player of the last decade. He ruined his own reputation just to get that World Series ring before retiring.
  10. I still really dislike the new three-batter minimum rule, but the rest is fine.
  11. This contrarian s*** is getting old. Masturbation is not sex.
  12. "The police also asked McGuire how he came to be parked in that particular strip mall. McGuire, who said he is staying nearby, did not have a clear answer. 'After lunch Reese stated he came to the parking lot and began "hanging out,"' the report said. 'I asked Reese why he came to this parking lot in particular. Reese stated he did not know, it just seemed like a good place. I pointed out the high foot traffic and vehicles in and around the entire parking lot and Reese acknowledged this.'" 13. I don't know if beating off in your car should be a crime or even a media story... but it is f***ing weird.
  14. Who cares! This doesn't deserve its own thread.
  15. This is why there is (almost) no such thing as a pitching prospect. #TNSTAAPP
  16. Taking the side of management over labour, Hurl... didn't see that coming from you!
  17. Hate to sound cynical here, but after all the scandals that came out this offseason, this is Manfred using the media to try to change the conversation.

    NBA Thread

I'm hoping for a double OT victory with close to 200 points for the Raptors :-)
  19. And baseball is popular with Gen Z (though not millenials). The hysteria is mostly over how poorly baseball does with Gen X.
  20. Of all the ways to expand the postseason... terrible. But the fact that it was leaked shows that they’re just testing the waters, seeing how fans react. The final proposal is still in the works and will have to be less gimmicky and more basebally than this.
