  1. He hasn't played enough to show flaws to work on. Once he is settled in as a major leaguer.. (let's say like 20 games), then maybe start trying to adjust. Right now, it would probably be counter productive. He could be just pressing a little, getting squeezed a little, and finding gloves with hard hit balls. A few of those go on and his approach will reset to his normal approach which he is already quite close to.
  2. I notice Groshans isn't playing either doubleheader game today. Anyone know what's up? Chavez Young hasn't played in a few either.
  3. Yea, there needs to be a b in his name for that to work. You can’t just stick any word at the end.
  4. I feel like it’s been mentioned a few times that he isn’t hitting. And, yes I always hold my sides laughing when a blue jays prospect isn’t playing well.
  5. I’m guessing Sanchez, Stroman, smoak are available for arms who are closeish. I wonder who we could get? What teams need arms and what teams would be in for smoak? I see a lot of looking at prospect lists of random teams in my future lol.
  6. Yea, no argument on that.
  7. ‘At least one run’ was exactly what I was trying to say but failing spectacularly lol. My extension to that would be there must be other times when win expectancy is increased by increasing the possibility of scoring at least one over maximizing run expectancy. It would be interesting to know what they are.
  8. Yes, I think so. Or, If there is a situation where the possibility of scoring 1 increases, the possibility of scoring multiple decreases and the possibility of scoring none stays the same or roughly the same? Or even something like the possibility of scoring 3 or more really decreases a lot with bunting but not 1/2.
  9. That wasn’t quite the question I was asking though. I was wondering if there were situations where scoring one run is more likely if you bunt but scoring 3 or more runs is way less likely. I don’t think run expectancy really tells you that. I guess the most pure example would be, if it’s the bottom of the ninth and you need one run to win. Would your win expectancy rise if you bunted the guy to third even if your expected runs fell?
  10. Expected runs are the average amount of runs scored in that situation?
  11. Just because the likelihood of success is extremely low doesn’t mean it is zero as implied by ‘warm bodies’.
  12. I can think of some scenarios where I think it would make sense to sacrifice bunt... but that’s just my intuition. For example, with a 4 run lead in say the 6th, I would put more utility in getting one more run than maximizing my chance to get many more runs. That’s because to me the bunt increases the chance of one but decreases the chance of 2/3/4. That’s my instinct. Is there a way to figure out if that is a good idea?
  13. Armchair psychology! Lol.
  14. Alford has 3 walks today which could be the start of a turnaround, lol. Also, Kevin smith is slumping.
  15. So, why have them at all on a rebuilding team? There shouldn’t be anyone on the roster who’s only upside is decent bench player at this point.
  16. I don’t think it’s the same thing as blocking someone. Blocking someone kind of indicates that they have something locked down. They are auditioning.
  17. Your use of the word probably kinds of makes it sound like you agree with me.
  18. Well, yea. Most of them. Edit: McKinney, Drury, Tellex, Brito, Gurriel (when he comes back) and even Teoscar. They all play the spots Biggio plays.. I'd rather they get enough PAs to make a decision on what they are. Especially, the first three. Teoscar is on the roster next year for sure anyway but I'd also like to see him get as many PAs as possible.
  19. Yea, I don't see the point in calling up Biggio yet. There are a ton of guys on the major league roster that need at bats to see if they are something. Let Biggio mash in triple A until July. And, let's get him looks at as many positions as possible.
  20. Where do you get those kind of stats? Like velocity and direction of hitting? This was a great comment. It was really interesting. Do you think the juiced ball give more hope for guys like Kirk. He has dead pull power but he might get to triple a and realize that now he can hit oppo and it still will go out?
  21. Alford is perplexing. I remember him being good at double a pre his first call up and the hamate injury.
  22. I might be about to say something dumb but is it a big deal that a catcher is fat? They don’t really play every day any more and you don’t have to run much.
  23. Don’t quote me on this but I read somewhere that Keuchel would cost a 2020 pick if signed after the draft.
  24. I don’t like that piece because it is vague as f***. However, I’ve never seen any evidence that bullying makes baseball teams better. I mean it sounds very rah rah and whatever.. but I doubt it makes much difference. Unless, the reason we fell off because we weren’t bullying enough. Didn’t no one think to bully Bautista when he stopped hitting? Also, for the love of god, someone should have bullied tulo into not being hurt all the time.
  25. I was just working under the scenario we were talking about tbh. I don’t have a ton of confidence that he would ever replicate that season.
