    You dudes have to realize that the Blue Jays also got shafted by the new trading environment. Gone are the days of Torres, McKinney, Warren, etc for half a season of Chapman. Teams aren't as willing to give up top prospects as they were in the past. The Stroman trade is the best possible outcome with the shift in valuation of prospects. Although a tertiary piece, like Christian James, should've been included to complete the deal.

    What's the chances he changes his mind and signs with another team? Has that ever happened with another top international player who was linked so closely to a team?

    There's no way they'd go over the allotment and lose a first round pick with this much time before the signing deadline. They'd play chicken until the last moment to get it done.

    Martin will NOT sign with the Jays. Boras has recently stated that the Tigers will be a "monster" team. So he's going to wait and sign for well over $8mil with the monster Tigers after they pick him next year. You heard it here first.

    So what's it going to take to get there? If they go 5% over, how much do they need to save on the other signings? Also, worst case scenario, can they not sign the number 5 pick and use all that money to get it done?

    I have a question: hypothetically, say if the Jays pay above the allotted amount and the 5% they're allowed to go over, what kind of penalty will result? Is it just financial or is there a forfeit of a pick or something along those lines?

    I guess the way I look at it is that I would find it harder to decide between the best available pitcher and best available hitter; but I'm sure they have one hitter ranked above the other. And everything I've read they seem higher on Veen then Gonzalez. That being said I'm sure they've done enough homework to rank Meyer above any available hitter if they go that route.

    The dream scenario is that the Royals are high on Meyer and take him. Then it makes it an easy decision. Veen would be the obvious pick. If they take Veen, I'm torn between Meyer and Gonzalez.

    I can confirm that the Jays are 100% taking Meyer. Over the years I've discovered that I have psychic-like abilities. I pretty much predicted 9-11, except I didn't get the towers, the planes, or the terrorism part right.
