    Last year they had a habit of playing to their competition. I am not too worried about it.

    They offered Tucker a 10 year deal with a big AAV. He chose the Dodgers and a ridiculous AAV. This wasn’t a case of them cheating out. They were shopping at the top and couldn’t convince all of them to come. Going after other options wouldn’t have moved the dial a lot. Barger may still be the impact bat we want on the corner. It’s too early to judge this year.

    It’s early to be s***ing on hitters too much. We’re 7 games in. A cold week not to start the season and we barely notice it.

    Potential because it is still early and it is hard to say right now if it is a Kirk problem, pitcher problem or just playing s***** aggressive teams.

    That’s now 10 SBs against Kirk partway through his fifth game. This is has the potential to be a problem.

    Realistically, they were probably holding him down long enough to get the extra year of control had he not signed. So nine years gives up 2-3 years of free agency. It’s important to note he still hits free agency at age 28 with a chance to get his bag. what was his earning potential in those nine years? The first three would be about 2.5 million total on minimum contracts. Soto got $80 million in four years of arbitration so if Griffin becomes a superstar (and arbitration doesn’t change) that seems like a reasonable number. Those are both big ifs though. His more likely comparable in arbitration is Bobby Witt Jr who’s numbers given in his extension were actually a bit less than this. That’s 82.5 million for the first 7 years. Tack on another 60 million for two years of free agency and it’s not a bad deal given the security it provides for his family.

    40th percentile in velocity. What about accuracy?

    I firmly believe the Jays didn’t really want him back, especially once they had to make the call early on Okamoto.

    Focus and pre-game prep perhaps. He certainly had it during the WBC.

    Shouldn't the Jays also be losing their 5th highest pick due to the Cease signing? Also, shouldn't they have added a pick after the competitive balance round B for Bo signing elsewhere?

    Fenway flat out sucks. Many seats with completely obstructed views, every step having a different height. It's got history and a gimmick (the monster) that make everyone love it, but to me even the monster lost some appeal once they put seats on top of it. Plus the people there tend to be idiots. I've been to plenty of pro sports in all kinds of cities and Fenway is the one spot I've seen with regular fights breaking out between home and away team fans.

    batters hated it. I bet the pitchers loved it.

    My concern isn't his range, which should play there. It's his arm strength. He often struggled with the throws at SS and they only get longer at 3B. Add to that the fact he is throwing to a first time 1B in Polanco and I'm not sure it will work out well.

    This day of only 3 games makes me sad. Konnor Griffin getting the call makes me happy for tomorrow though!

    It's not that they (heck we as I've done it) can't help but post something stupid in the moment. It's cathartic to put something out there in the moment and absolutely harmless.

    I can't imagine they changed it in the rule book to match ABS as there is no way you could tell and umpire to call the strike zone based on 27%-53.4% of the players listed height. That's one of the big reasons everyone needs to lay off the umps missing up or down in my opinion.

    I wonder if it is a case of when they use him in low leverage it is against particular guys he matches up very well against?

    It's a concern. I was too confident in it pre-season apparently.

    Are these 4 pitch walks as ugly as gameday makes them look?

    The amount of stolen bases given up so far this year is very concerning.

    It feels like every season starts this way recently. Fail to break games open forcing the bullpen to get overused early. Hopefully the bats wake up earlier this year.
