  1. It seems people are kind of counting out Pompey. He had a pretty good year at AAA and gives the offensive versatility as a switch hitter with speed. My understanding is he bats better left-handed, which is what we need. Defensively he should certainly be an upgrade over Bautista and Saunders. If you bat him 9th and he can manage to get on, that is a nice situation to have his speed with the lineup turning over. If the Jays are not going to use him, maybe now is the time to package him in a trade deal
  2. Yes, Cleveland only scored a total of 12 runs in 5 games. Our offense in general just did not get the job done. But it is a good point he brought up about that first inning of game 1. Runners at 2nd and 3rd with one out and JB coming to the plate, and by my recollection, he struck out. Kluber allowed a number of baserunners, all of which were were stranded. That was an omen of bad things to come. It reminded me of Happ stranding all those base runners in game 2 of the ALDS (doesn't feel too good to be on the other end of that).
  3. Yes Kelly has the potential to be a beast out of the pen. That's exactly the kind of guy I was thinking about. His fastball touches 100 mph, but still needs to work on command.
  4. Yes last season was a success getting to the playoffs and pushing the eventual WS champs to the 6th game of ALCS. The way game 6 ended was infuriating, but we were immediately able to look forward to building on that success this season. But, with essentially the same lineup and better starting pitching, the Jays barely squeaked into the playoffs and laid an egg offensively against a mediocre Tomlin in game 2, a patchwork in game 3 and a rookie with a mediocre 3.70 ERA in AAA and minimal innings at the MLB level in game 5. Getting shut out twice in 5 games including at home in game 5 - unacceptable. Also, Miller is VERY good, but not as good as the Jays made him look. And our pitching did the job well. I think Cleveland batted under .190 in the series and only scored 12 total runs. We should have won that series for sure.
  5. Could be a good pick-up if the price is right. Also Greg Holland will be of interest to teams. It would be great if the Jays could identify a struggling starter to convert to a reliever like KC did with Wade Davis. Anyone have any suggestions?
  6. That banner was an instant classic. I bet we will see it make a return appearance when the Rangers visit Toronto next May.
  7. Hi guys - only my 2nd post here, and after a couple days, I'm on my way to getting over the disappointment of the ALCS and looking forward to 2017. BUT, after a generally frustrating up and down season: for 9 days (Oct 1 - 9) the Jays went 6-0, and they had the pundits starting to say 'oh oh' look out for the Jays. While the ALDS sweep over the rival Rangers and WC walk off win were great, for me it was games 161 and 162. Must win in Boston, and they pulled off back to back 1 run victories while holding that potent offense to 4 total runs over those games. Particularly memorable for me was game 161, where Boston tied it on the Osuna balk in the 8th, only to have the Jays score on Kimbrel in the 9th to retake the lead. Then Osuna gutted it out for the win, ultimately recording the final 6 outs with no hits allowed (even though he was almost the goat). I was left dazed and almost in disbelief when it was over. Too bad the hot streak lead to a 4 day lay off and they lost their mojo along the way.
  8. Hi, sorry your trip to Cleveland was a disappointment. I agree, the key has to be to get an early lead when facing a team like that with a stacked bullpen. It is not just Miller and Allen. Their bullpen is solid 4 or 5 deep. So Jays hitters should not have any thoughts of running up the starter's pitch count like you normally would. Look for a good pitch and go for it, early and often. And with RISP, cut down your swing just looking to put the ball in play for the sac fly (or RBI single as the case may be) instead of going all out for the 3 run bomb. I agree JB's SO in 1st inning of game 1 set a bad tone. Also agree that they are done if they lose game 3, BUT winning game 3 with Clevenger (who isn't even stretched out) slated for game 4 puts the Jays right back in this thing.
