  1. I think Stoeten gets a bad rap sometimes. Perhaps he is one those writers that is best taken in homeopathic doses. I think he likely has an account on the here, we just have to figure out who it is.
  2. I think Max will be very appreciative of Kirk's framing this season. Could be a great tandem.
  3. Good lineup today. Should be a good watch.
  4. Have to work today or else I would be all over this gdt. Sunny days ahead folks. Every team filled with hope in the spring.
  5. Absolutely. Based on the game Schneider should have called an audible and kept Berrios in the game. The look on Pete Walkers face that game told us everything.
  6. This is the type of move the Tampa Bay Rays would make. Atkins still has a few tricks up his sleeve.
  7. Agreed. I find Rosenthal is tougher on the Jays than other teams when it comes to criticism. Maybe a short man thing?
  8. What better return than Alonso? I would hope our return for our best asset in his prime is something better than an aging one dimensional player soon to be in the twilight of his career. Or so we only plan one season into the future? If Vladdy gets moved I would want prospects, the Jays can fill holes with their deep pockets.
  9. Because the Soto contract is what is termed as an "outlier" ie. it is more than three standard deviations away from the average mlb salary. Meaning it is not a valid data point to compare other players salaries against. You cannot use it in the linear way you have. If teams paid players with this linear approach the team salaries would be out of control. Conversly we cannot say that Soto is worth 25 times as much as say Ernie Clement because he makes 25 times more than Clements salary per season. I think Laika already said as much but you don't seem to grasp this. edit: And yes, I'll say it, Soto is not worth what he is being paid. Just because another team makes a mistake doesn't mean the Jays have to follow suit.
  10. Don't mind seeing Vladdy sign elsewhere but seeing him in a Red Sox uniform would really sting.
  11. I think a lot of the future course of action for this ball club is predicated on the status of one Mark Shapiro and to a much lesser degree Atkins. If Shapiro gets extended I think there may be a slight retool (rebuilds are for non to luxury tax teams at this point) but the mandate will be to field a competitive team, CBT be damned. If Shapiro exits the org than I definitely see the new management group going heavy on the retool because why not, you can blame your predecessor for emptying the proverbial cupboard. This would be interesting but I think somewhat painful for casual fans. If Vladdy gets inked to a long term deal it could be indicative of Mark Shapiro getting extended as well. To be honest I'm surprised that the Blue Jays haven't committed to Shapiro at this point. Could this mean maybe Shapiro has plans to move on? Who knows but this upcoming season (on and off the field) will determine the strategy for the next five years.
  12. The argument that the Jays were negligent and should have known that they couldn't sign Vlad, hence they should have traded him seems like pure hindsight to me. Vladdy made overtures that he wanted to remain a Jay for life. Unfortunately the Soto deal moved the goalposts an incredible amount. Its not the Jays fault that some overzealous prick in New York went crazy and gave Soto the moon. Without the Soto deal being consummated I believe Vladdy would have signed by now. Unfortunately he has $ signs in his eyes right now. I don't think it's fair to blame the Jays if they had every intention to sign Vladdy but are disciplined enough not to throw money at an asset that could decline precipitously.
  13. Sure but by all accounts Judge turned down a more lucrative offer from the Padres to resign with NYY. I see Vladdy as only interested in n one thing, the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. "We all know where rainbow goes, we are told it's a pit of gold". Screw Pepperidge Farms.
  14. After 2023 the majority on this board wanted Vladdy shuffled out of here. Now like the fat girl in school who has a pretty face and returns after summer vacation 25 pounds lighter we're lining up to resign him. That is what Vladdy's 2024 season equates to. 😜 Will the real Vladdy please stand up?
  15. Well the true deadline isn't until his contract expires and before he signs elsewhere. Nothing wrong with him trying to get all he can and perhaps all this talk about wanting to stay a Blue Jay for life is just posturing. If his asking price is a contract that begins with the number 5 (and I suspect it does) then we all know what the prudent course of action should be: Trade him while you can. Yeah, the usual suspects will blame this on Jays management not being able to close a deal with their franchise player but at some point common sense has to prevail, right? I've always been in the sign Vladdy camp but looking at the situation from a purely analytical perspective, in a few short years he will be on the wrong side of 30, do you really want to empty your pocket book for what could be Prince Fielder 2.0 at that point?
  16. I think Bo gets moved this season. The only thing to prevent that would be this team exceeding expectations which would mean hanging on to him for the playoff stretch. Either way the next seven months are the last we will see if him in a BJ uniform. Too bad really, we expected so much.
  17. Atkins was selling snake oil. I love it.
  18. For a guy who is a regular on these boards you're not aware of your the "playoffs will be easy to make" mantra?
  19. Vladdy repeating 2024 + Bichette bounce back + Two or more players exceeding eapectations ( looking at you Varsho, Gimenez, Clement, Wagner, Kirk) + Healthy pitching staff + At least one team in the Al East s***ing the bed _________________________ = Playoffs will be easy to make.
