In order for Atkins/Jays to maximize his return for Kikuchi he has to preemptively deal before other candidates as Laika noted become available. Basically pull a Billy Beane Moneyball move and say, "I thought I would give you first dibs on the lefty. You don't act now he will be gone by the weekend."

Too soon? I think not. Last year it was started even earlier in July and was highlighted by the Jays acquisition of Paul Dejong:p. This year's deadline can/will impact the direction of this franchise for near future. All that remains is how aggressive the Jays will be . Some of the no brainer moves should involve: Richards Garcia Kikuchi Jansen The four above absolutely must be moved and in a sellers market there will be demand. Also to be moved with no expectation of tangible return should be: Keirmaier Turner Just get what you can and move some payroll if possible. A Bichette trade will be seismic but unlikely based on Atkins recent comments. Gausman and Bassitt should be on the block but who knows. I assume Shapiro and co. will have a firm hand on the wheel for this trade deadline so it might be different. Not an all out fire-sale but There Will Be Blood.
