  1. Sometimes miracles do happen and you can end up moving the immovable....
  2. Don't worry JIm, it's highly unlikely.
  3. Fan base: Ross we need a lefty starter. Atkins:
  4. Put him in the bullpen?
  5. Well kudos to Ponce for reinventing himself in the KBO and getting back in mlb. The contract of 3/30m is lifechanging. The Jays are definitely building up starting pitching depth in what they will likely transfer to a lighter workload across the season for all the starters so they enter the postseason completely fresh. Very strategic. This also tells me that Atkins has an exit plan for Berrios already. Got to be right?
  6. "They can simply reallocate what they don't spend elsewhere." Is this guy getting paid by the word?
  7. No Red Sox or Orioles action which I like. Imai to the Yankees not so much.
  8. It is quite likely. The Jays are trying to win a World Series title Jim. Didn't you get the memo?
  9. One lesson to be learned with the Cease signing is that when they say, Where there's smoke, there is fire isn't true. Sometimes smoke is just smoke. Atkins and co keep their cards pretty close. The tweets about who they met with and talked to don't mean a hill of beans. No one had reports of them talking to Cease but here we are.
  10. I think this is generally correct. Their EBITDA number is something like $24 million. So yeah, a spike in payroll could easily put them in a loss position.
  11. Baseball armageddon is bound to happen one day. Need a floor and a cap or else 25 teams play for nothing.
  12. How dare he?!?
  13. The Jays (Pete Walker) have to get Cease to attack the zone. On first pitch strikes he below league average. For a guy with his velo/stuff this is unacceptable. Im pretty sure the Jays will have him get aggressive early in the count. This is what I found online: Cease. MLB avg. Spin %. 52.6% 31% 1st pitch strikes 60%. 61.8% In Zone 46.5%. 48.9% Edge. 42.2%. 42.7% If he throws first pitch strikes next season = Cy Young
  14. Berrios is here. He's not leaving. He's going to give up 28 bombs in 2026. And you're all going to watch and enjoy it.
  15. Could this also be a case that it just isn't their philosophy as an org with respect to pitcher development? Perhaps they think the it is best to work on and develop the existing raw material talent of a pitcher instead of new pitch development? Or is it just a matter of they aren't good at it as you stated? How do you rate the Pirates in such a case? I had heard that the Pirates are big believers in the race to two. Ie. Get two strikes before two balls in the count. Which it seems the Jays embraced and now spreading like wildfire but that it originated out of the Pirates org first. In short the Pitching to Win philosophy; weird that it comes from the Pirates.
  16. I don't get why some are so enamored with Scherzer to the extent that they want him back in any capacity. Is it the resume? The high strung attitude? The vetrin presents? Sure he had some value in the playoffs and is an easy guy to cheer for but why take a chance with a guy north of 40? He is an injury waiting to happen. Too much volatility for me. Thanks for your efforts Max. Wish you well wherever you end up but your time in Toronto has come to an end.
  17. Actually if you go onto the Orioles Hangout they have a thread on the Cease signing and there are posters on there trying to convince others that Kremer is the equivalent of Cease.
  18. No I don't think you can do FIP by inning (open to correction). It is a measure of the season as a whole. But why would you need to because it encapsulates hr's, walks, strikeouts, innings pitched, and hit by pitch. The number is sound because it uses a fip constant to make it scale like era. Generally because his FIP is lower than his era it means his underlying performance is better than what his era shows. ie. maybe bad luck or bad defense, etc.
  19. Yeah, agreed. I see people saying he is up and down but if you look at his FIP by year it is remarkably consistent: 2021.....3.46 2022.....3.15 2023......3.62 2024.......3.25 2025......3.52 The guy is money.
  20. Was 2022 an anomaly for Cease?
  21. Did the Jays just inflate salaries for the rest of the starters on the market? You bet. Wonder if this will cause a mad rush to scoop up the other starters. Hopefully he doesn't give up a bunch of hr's at the Rogers Centre, (a possibility, he gave up career high 21 last season...gulp). Pete Walker has some work to do.
