    Remember when we wanted a college pitcher and drafted Deck McGuire instead of Chris Sale. That was fun. McGuire just had that big body you couldn't ignore!

    I agree between his bargain contract for 3 years and not getting the major league outfielder they coveted. Not enough in my opinion.

    They still have a top 10 system and all those young stars already in the majors. Ugh Baseball turned into the NBA.

    I can't even imagine what a Josh Donaldson extension would look like. 5 years 175M? If we struggle this year wouldn't be shocked if he's shopped. That lineup Boxy posted is a beaut but seems fantasy. And wouldn't leave us any wiggle room for the bullpen while taking us over budget. Here is hoping some of these young position players can come up and make the blow of all these future losses easier to absorb.

    I thought the Morales deal was pretty safe. Moving into the AL East will help for obvious reasons. I don't like the Butler comparison because he's never had the power of Morales, and was a platoon player going into a ballpark he wasn't likely to have much success in. I'm expecting him to be pretty good and reliable.

    That's actually a huge gap to make up... We should want no part of 18M+ a year for Fowler. 15.5 is more than fair and I hope we don't go much over that. Hard to imagine they will. I just don't see anyone willing to pay that money especially with a draft pick attached.

    I mean would it really? He got a contract he didn't really deserve. Is going to get paid that money no matter what. And he probably has more than a handful of teams willing to take him on a minor league contract.

    Of course they would listen but trading for players at peak value doesn't seem like this front offices M.O.

    Just curious has Adam Eaton ever been in a legit trade rumour? This is the only place I hear his name. Don't understand why they would trade him unless they get blown away so I don't even understand why he would be a target. He would certainly be nice to have though!

    If we could trade Smoak I would forget about a lot of bad things.

    He only didn't catch last time because he had just signed with the Pirates and didn't want to learn 2 pitching staffs in Spring. Was still willing to go as an infielder but Pirates and Team Canada said no. Hopefully this finally squashes the whole notion that Martin doesn't want to represent his country. The big ones for me are Freeman, Tallion, and Paxton.

    This makes me sad. I really wish Edwin would have just committed. No doubt his agent influenced the decision and if he doesn't deliver he royally f***ed Edwin. I mean to cone out of free agency with not your #1 choice and less money is an obvious firing.
