Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I enjoyed your take on this. Yes I agree it's too early yo worry about how the batting order 4 to 9 looks like. Need to give it a few games and see who establishes themselves. I'm high on Wagner and Roden so I hope they come out making a statement and stick. I'm also excited about Varsho this season and I've said a few times I can see him being a 30 HR guy and he's my hot take on who will end up in the #4 spot vs RHPs. I'm also hoping Barger stays hot at AAA and forces his way to the jays soon. Our best shot on vastly improving our offense this year is if we have some internal growth from our young players... and we have a lot of young players. Other than Springer and Santander and Clemente you could say all our guys are just entering their prime or haven't even gotten close to their prime I'm optimisticly excited for this season!

i think Wagner, Schenider and Barger are locks But between Lukes, Straw, and Roden I'm hoping for Straw really Roden i don't see why they'd pick him unless they're going to give him playing time which i don't see. no need ot keep a top prospect on the bench. Straw has been hot this spring training and while i don't think he can maintain such a pace for a full season maybe he can start hot for a couple weeks and give you gold glove defense in center field. Worthy gamble in my opinion, we still have to pay his 5M either way. -

i said earlier if Bo - Vlad - Tony - Varsho stay healthy and give you big power this year and hit 30+ HR each ... that'll be BIG for this team. -
wouldnt 500M be the 3rd highest baseball contract ever after Ohtani and Soto? that's pretty far fetched, he was 13th in WAR in 2024, 316th in 2023, 91st in 2022, 9th in 2021 He's a 1st baseman, poor defense, abysmal base runner ... and he wants the 3rd largest contract in baseball history? in Jack Armstrong words, get that garbage outta here
-
but the value of money in PV all depends on what you think inflation is going to be over the span of the payments. if he wants 500M PV to be paid out over 15 years that would mean 615M at 3% interest/inflation. if there's more deferrals that has this paid out over 20 or 25 years than it'll be even more. regardless, 500M Present Value is INSANE! he's a no-baserunning, no D, out of-shape first baseman for crying out loud. you're better off signing 2 Santander types on short-term deals every 4 years!

i may be alone on this forum on this take but, i still believe Varsho has middle of the lineup potential. I'm not going to put too much emphasis on spring training performance but, if Varsho can become a 30 HR guy having him in the 4th hole vs. RPH (if you load up with Bo, Vlad, Tony 1-3) or 5th hole (if Bo, lad, Tony are 2-4) can be good if you potentially have 4 x 30 HR bats. Guess point i was trying to make is that if the stars align there's potential in our line up. We lack having an established line-up but, we've seen good flashes from our projected starting 9 + bench. Afterall, this is baseball. Least predictable sport ... -

if Varsho is good to go for opening day i'm not against this. Straw can be effective is used situationally. late-inning defensive replacement and pinch runner. Our roster offers enough positional versatility that we can hide a guy to be situational only and Straw is ELITE defensively. Having Straw - Varsho outfield to close out a game is huge. They'll theoretically be able to cover 75% of the outfield... -

not sure what he's saying or why he thinks SPringer/Gimenez will be our # 4/5 hitters either. likely Bo, Vlad, Tony will be our 2-4 but, assuming they are our 1-3 than our 4-6 will most likely be a combo of Kirk, Varsho (vs. RHP), Barger (vs RHP), Wagner (vs. RHP) Clement (vs. LHP), Schneider (vs. LHP), Springer (vs. LHP). Varsho and Barger are crushing baseballs this spring training so really hopeful it carriers into the regular season. vs. RHP, here's a potential line up. There's definitely lots of pop in here. Bichette SS Guerrero 1B Santander LF or RF or DH Varsho CF Kirk C Barger LF or DH Springer LF or RF or DH Clement 3B Gimenez 2B -

Francis has struggled this spring though and Scherzer i'm sure they won't overwork him. for our roster construction might not be the worst thing to have 2 guys in the pen able to go 3 IP. Assuming health, Bsssit, Gausman and Berrios are top 10 in baseball at eating up innings so if we have Yarbough and Yariel respectively back up Scherzer/Francis it should allow for decent bull pen management for the rest. Could even skip the odd Scherzer/Francis start as they might not be the best candidates for 150+ IP seasons -

yup i like the depth coming up. Not all of these guys will stick but, if even 3 or 4 out of these guys become regulars for us over the next 2 seasons it's a huge win. Roden, Barger, Orelvis, and Wagner have solid potential Leo Jimenez is the wild card for me. His defense is very good and in the batters box my eye test tells me he can be a good hitter.. a .250 / .350 / .750 with 10-15 HR power and solid defense at SS. He has a good eye at the plate and he's only 23 years old! Lots of potential here. -

Reed f'ing Johnston. he was my favorite player when i was a kid and just got into baseball. I thought him and Frank Catalanatto were the bomb Interesting fact, Reed Johnson put up a 4.4 WAR for the Jays in 2006. If only organizations cared about WAR back than. -

i like Yarbough in our pen i think he'll be pretty dependable for long relief and low leverage situation. Typical vet How about Walker over Pop? -

Yeah but what positions does he play? Don't think you can afford penciling him DH full time. I like having the DH spot to rotate guys in and out I'm reallt hoping Martinez rips it and by end of season he's our unsung here batting 5th or 6th with 25-30 HR. The kids got legit power -
i started posting on this board after being a long-time reader for 15+ years just to say my piece that best course of action is to trade Vladdy! In his 6 MLB seasons he has 2 great seasons of 6.3 WAR and 5.5 WAR. A decent season of 3.3 WAR and 3 other seasons of 1.3, 0.3 and 0.3 WAR. He's not that good defensively He's a 1B He is one of the worst base runners in the league He's not athletic and the guy probably wants somewhere between 450-550 million contract. Trade this guy ... he's full of himself. he's all about me me me, all about vladdy. I've been saying this all off-season. I really do hope the BoSoxs or Mets decide to give this guy an albatross of a contract to f*** over their team for the next decade.

You guys Mason Flubarty has a chance to crack the roster as a lefty arm? Curious on opinions from the folks here that keep closer tabs on our prospects Also what about Eric Pardhino? I see he had a really strong finish in AAA to close up the year and was lights out in AA. Any future left here with this kid? Seems like ages ago he joined the organization -
The promising thing for me is all the young bats we have. There's a realistic chance a few breakout this year and make an impact. Orelvis Martinez - Scheinder mentioned yesterday than him, Ernie and Wagner will get a shot at 3rd base. Surprised no mention of Barger Addison Barger Leo Jimenez Joey Loperfido Will Wagner Those 5 guys I'm hopeful they take a big leap this year. Davis Schenider is also a wild card for a right bat vs LHP off rhe bench but... BIG wild card in my opinion. If it clicks for them though a Schneider / Barger platoon could be good

Interested names in that article What do people know about Jose Iglesias and Brandon Roger's Are either you guys think a good fit for a bench bat? Seem to have decent numbers and Iglesias posted a 3.1 WAR last year? Can't say i follow any of the two closely but Iglesias numbers last year seem video game like
