  1. Brad Mills could strike out a batter an inning in the minors too. And on the other hand Sanchez could not. Stuff and results don't always mesh in the minors
  2. Giving up a pick to sign him. There's a 1% chance another team could offer him a 2 year deal for like $20m or so. 0% chance they offer up a 1st rounder to sign him.
  3. All the mangos he can eat though.
  4. Yup. He's young. That can come. The command looks really good so that's a huge plus for him. Needs more depth on the SL.
  5. Exactly. Don't say anything interesting to the media and you won't get in trouble.
  6. Didn't see much of it. Or if he did throw it either I missed it, or it doesn't have a big break so it wasn't impressive. One other thing. Holy s*** does Lizardo have an arm on him. I've read that he has a great arm, but seeing it an action is impressive. Edit: Just saw him throw a slider and strike someone out. Average. Good location though.
  7. Here's the truth.... Players, agents, GM's, coaches, managers.....anyone....ANYONE...can say whatever they want to anyone. They can...AND DO try to convince each other to sign here, there, wherever...GM's are always talking to agents and dropping hints, ideas, talking numbers. That happens. There is no doubt. And no one gives a s***...unless the media gets wind of it. If you can keep it on the down low, you're fine. Ortiz's only mistake was saying it in front of the wrong people. It's the same as players having deals all lined up before the draft or the IFA signing period. It's all worked out way beforehand in many cases. Edwin knows what teams would be interested in him and has a range of salaries that he can expect from each given team. At least as a general framework. That changes based on performance, supply and demand (who signs where, and who's left desperate). Ortiz saying that he thinks EE would be a great replacement for him is not news...to anyone. I'm sure he mentioned this to Edwin 3 years ago in private.
  8. Nice. Wasn't watching super closely, but what I'm noticing is that he has nice run on his 2-seamer. Worked the corners very well. He could really use a breaking ball. He does throw a cutter/slider which has a bit of a break but but I think he needs to work on something with a bit more break for a different look. They mentioned that he was at 91 with that slider/cutter on one pitch so I'm leaning to it being a cutter. There were a few pitches that may have been changeups, but they announcers were saying FB and with no velecity numbers on the TV it was hard to know for sure. FB was 93-95 for the first three innings. Lots of things to like, but lots of work to do.
  9. Greene might be ready next year. He's in AA now. Of course, it all depends on how he adjusts and performs, but in theory, he's going to be close. And if SRF keeps ripping through the minors he might be close as well. The Jays don't really have any in-house 6th or 7th starters for 2016...but for next year I'm not so sure...
  10. Have to incorporate movement into that too. A straight change, like Estrada has, has to have the 10mph separation because it relies on the hitter to swing early. However, when you're looking at a splitter, it's not as critical as the main difference is the drop the pitch has, and you're looking for batters to swing over it, rather than ahead of it. Separation helps, but it's not always critical.
  11. Chills. Still get chills watching it.
  12. pretty sure he sits 89-91 and touches 92-93 i think i read.
  13. Thole is terrible. Banishing Dickey accomplishes 2 things.
  14. No. Who's your new catcher? who's your new shortstop?
  15. I mean 'still' as in a low level of ball. Not that he's repeated anything.
  16. The only thing going against him is that he just turned 21 and he's still in the GCL. They need to start pushing him to see if they have anything there.
  17. It'll be Zeuch. No reason to cum in your pants, like the tweet did, unless it's Zoik.
  18. We have been lucky. But that's the point. You're gonna have to be lucky whether you bring Dickey back or not. I think we'll be lucky to get another "good" season out of Dickey.
  19. There is...but not in this case.
  20. That's why Shapiro is here. He's the saviour. He'll find the right replacement to bring in. I'm just not a knuckleball fan...which is odd cause I remember when the Jays brought Tom Candiotti in as a deadline deal and I thought he was very effective. I have absolutely no faith in Dickey...and I hate feeling that every game he starts will result in a loss. Illogical or not...that's how I feel with him.
  21. Happ was a good signing for a very reasonable contract. Estrada signed for a very reasonable deal. There are good pitchers to be had every off-season that don't require a bank breaking.
  22. The thing with Dickey is that he's gonna be 42 going into next season. The end is getting near...and I'd rather him not completely fall apart here. I'd rather give up on a guy a year too soon than a year too late.
  23. Watching Dickey pitch doesn't make me happy. Move on.
