We don't need anything from you. Just sit back and enjoy yours and we'll do the same.
  6. I don't think anyone is saying move the young players...but when the writing is on the wall and you have veteran pieces like Donaldson, or Smoak last year where you could've sold high...and the goal is to stock the cupboard, you have to be willing to pull that trigger.

This is like using the Facebook comments section to lump all Jays fans together. Like every fan base there are intelligent fans, and there are blockheads. You can usually tell the two apart pretty quickly.
  8. Oh noes! His clock has started!
  9. This is what I like to see. Move guys that have actual value (beyond Happ). It's not like our controllable guys are all Stars in the making. Gimme prospects all over the damn place.
  10. It's better to trade someone a year too soon than a year too late.
  11. Probably similar to what they could've gotten had they dealt Donaldson too.

My guess is you'll see him with Kadri and Brown on the 3rd line.

There weren't any good ones on the FA market. That may come via trade. Also need centers. Bozak left, JVR left (winger, but 30+ goals lost). Need to replace goals and depth at center... Did both with this one signing.

  15. Does this mean what I think it means?
  16. Orelvis Martinez can be added to the shortstop list tomorrow

That's part of it. Gimme my money now. The other part is that, and it won't necessarily make a difference in this situation but, if Tavares was to say be shopped around, assuming he didn't have a NTC, he would be attractive to small market teams that could artificially increase their spending to hit the floor of the salary cap, without actually having to spend the dollars on him cause they were already paid up front by the Leafs. So $11m goes against the Sens, but they only actually have to pay Tavares a fraction of that out of their own pockets.

It's still an $11M cap hit.

Not necessarily true. It will be tough, but there are other pieces that can be moved. Marleau has 2 years but might be gone after next season. Gardiner is an FA after next season. Martin is expendable. The Leafs have some good young cheap pieces that are very close to being ready to step in for some of the more expensive established parts. This can work if they do it right and the kids can take the next step.

I'd love to believe that, but I've been fooled by these, friend of a friend of a friend of the aunt's hairdresser business before.

NHL Free Agent Frenzy kicks off at 12pm EST today. Still no word on John Tavares' destination, although the fact that he didn't extend with the Islanders is a pretty good indication that he's done there. San Jose and Toronto believed to be the 2 front runners now. That said, watch him sign with Ottawa.
