  1. This reminds me of high school/university when I had to write essays and meet a certain page length and to fill in space would just regurgitate a ton of semi-related stats/facts/sources/quotations and use a bunch of words to explain a point that could have been made in a couple sentences. With that said, I read it all, you made some very good points; but overall I'm still on the wait at least one year for anyone to even consider an extension to avoid another Ricky situation
  2. saw this in the article and was in disbelief for two seconds until I realized it was a typo and they meant OPS not OBP
  3. Lol didn't notice that, but if you go this route, you need to make up for Bautista's defense somehow lol. Plus it'll give Pillar a shot at the LF GG since he can' seem to beat KK for the CF one
  4. RF-Pearce CF-Pillar RF-Bautista (2yrs/$33) 3B-Donaldson SS-Tulo 2B-Travis 1B-Edwing (4yrs/$80) DH-Morales C-Martin BENCH (OF) - Upton BENCH (INF) - Barney BENCH (1B) - Smoak BENCH © - TBD Sanchez-Estrada-Happ-Stroman-Liriano Osuna-Grilli-Biagini-Loup-Barnes-Bolsinger-(FA/Internal) I've read we're at $133M now, those EE and JB deals would bring us to $169M, just above the $160-165M range I've seen. Getting Smoaky out would help. Obviously having both JB and EE probably not going to happen, but technically possible, although our AAA depth would be paper thin (Goins, Carrera [out of options right?], Pompey, Obenheizer)
  5. Sign a solid OF defender. Play 2 man outfield with Pillar + 2 DHs
  6. If that Edwin contract is true would be hilarious that in 2013 they had a $24.5 million payroll for 25 players and in 2017 Edwin would make $23 million himself.
  7. Under the current system, you lose your 1st and 2nd if you sign TWO players with QO. Under the new system of 2+5 or 3 (depending on luxury tax), what happens if you sign multiple (2+3+5+6 / 3+6???????)
  8. Hey Kevin, I know you're bummed about losing the GG to KK again. We've got a solution, you're going to play two OF positions at the same time next season. Maybe you'll win two Gold Gloves
  9. Still a chance they will. I haven't read anything indicating they were offering a deal, but also nothing that says they would not.
  10. Well with the news of the new CBA increasing roster sizes S-Rod: Sign me Shapiro: Sorry Sean you'd be our 26th man, they're no room S-Rod: Aww MLB and MLBPA: We have a new CBA, now we have 26 men rosters S-Rod: Hey Mark, there's space now Shapiro: Uhhh
  11. I wouldn't mind making September callups go up to 30, but having to name a 25 man roster each day (but they should make it that anyone who was a starter in the last 4 days has to be on it, otherwise the non-starting starting pitchers would always be off).
  12. Shapiro thought process: Every six months we make a stupid transaction on purpose, so people are still willing to deal wit us and then we fleece them
  13. I thought it was Shatkins?
  14. Maybe he thought the "Dad" was faking his age and was actually 38 (meaning he would have had him at 16)
  15. I know, I had intended to write that I thought he could hit more than 10% which the original poster said, since 10% is only 3. Somehow I deleted that part and didn't notice because I jus clicked post without proofreading
  16. Half my post somehow got deleted when I typing. I was joking that 10% of 30 HRs is only 3 extra home runs
  17. So an extra 3 home runs
  18. I know this is in the General Jays discussion, but I think it's deserving of its own thread: American League Catcher James McCann , Detroit Tigers (0) Carlos Perez , Los Angeles Angels (0) Salvador Perez , Kansas City Royals (3) First Base Chris Davis , Baltimore Orioles (0) Eric Hosmer , Royals (3) Mitch Moreland , Texas Rangers (0) Second Base Robinson Cano , Seattle Mariners (2) Ian Kinsler , Tigers (0) Dustin Pedroia , Boston Red Sox (4) Shortstop Jose Iglesias , Tigers (0) Francisco Lindor , Cleveland Indians (0) Andrelton Simmons , Angels (2) Third Base Adrian Beltre , Rangers (4) Manny Machado , Orioles (2) Kyle Seager , Mariners (1) Left Field Brett Gardner , New York Yankees (0) Alex Gordon , Royals (4) Colby Rasmus , Houston Astros (0) Center Field Jackie Bradley Jr., Red Sox (0) Kevin Kiermaier , Tampa Bay Rays (1) Kevin Pillar , Toronto Blue Jays (0) Right Field Mookie Betts , Red Sox (0) Adam Eaton , Chicago White Sox (0) George Springer , Astros (0) Pitcher R.A. Dickey , Blue Jays (1) Dallas Keuchel , Astros (2) Justin Verlander , Tigers (0)
  19. Hopefully Shapiro can do what he did last year and beat out the market by acting quick. AKA Happ and Estrada before the market set itself with Price. Most likely won't be able to do it with Encarnacion, who will likely wait a bit and capitalize on money, but hopefully he can lock up Benoit and Cecil very quick for reasonable deals and maybe another fielder
  20. Hopefully, Shapiro called him into the office ala Moneyball Beane and said to play the team as they are designed to be played (aka Shapiro's way) and you can keep your job. Hopefully, we see that as it will result in more success. Gibby seems to have a great relationship with the players, so couple that with some better decisions, could go a long way.
  21. Bautista with a drive, deep outta toronto, no doubt about it.
  22. We still have Liriano though, no?
  23. Bautista 1st pitch - home run swing strike 2nd pitch - takes far outside ball 3rd pitch - home run swing strike 4th pitch - home run swing foul 5th pitch - ????
  24. "If Navarro got into scoring position, Pompey would've ran"
