Did they review this play? It kind of looks like Rizzo missed the tag (tries to tag his right hand, which Robinson holds back while putting his left hand on the bag...) Regardless, this obviously was incredibly stupid

Agreed - outside of the smiling comment - why are people criticising Jerry for stating facts? Could someone who thinks Jerry is out of line please explain? If Jerry comes on tomorrow and says R.A. Dickey simply isn't doing his job so far this year and he needs to make the necessary adjustments - would are we going to hate on him too? What if he says Pillar isn't a very good hitter or that EE is swinging and missing a lot more than he ever did before....

His body is breaking down - I get that and I do blame AA for this situation, but you say that like no player in history has ever slowed their decline....he's only 31 - I don't think it's completely unfair to expect him to at least sustain some of his skills.

Fair point - I was talking about when he says he was just 6 games back from the DL and still not in the swing of things, etc....he certainly made some excuses in there. Also a fair point about his defense in LF/2nd - I'm assuming based on general opinion that LF and 2nd are easier to play.

Jerry said: - a shortstop that's not going to get better - defense is porous - $46M owed for 2016/17 is a tough situation for the Jays - offense has fallen off from where it was - smiles too much Outside of the ridiculous comment about smiling too much - Jerry is just stating the facts - many of which have been reiterated on this board excessively. Don't we want announcers to tell it the way it is instead of trying to massage the truth in favour of the home team (Wilner). I'm not going to lobby for Goins to start over him - but it's all true. He's better off defensively at 2nd/LF, his offense has fallen off the table (wRC+ 142 to 109 to 113 to 102 to 77, BB% 7.3 to 8.8 to 8.1 to 5.8 to 2.8), his contract is a burden and he's likely not going to get any better. I don't think Jerry deserves much criticism here. Jose needs to stop making excuses, work hard and get better.

I think he's just suggesting he's playing way over his head right now. 23% K 3% BB would suggest he's correct and his slash numbers will drop as the season progresses.

The discussion was in terms of the general concept - not the specific results....and if I recall, it was ironic b/c everyone wanted Navarro moved for a bullpen arm.

He was on a pitch limit. I think the most he's thrown all year in one game is 31. He was pulled at 43 I think......bullpen game for the Dodgers.

WTF are you talking about? They are relying on Portobello because Bautista and Saunders are hurt...................not a challenging concept. They are relying on Pillar in CF now (when yes, he should be a 4th OFer) b/c Pompey looked completely overwhelmed at the plate (as does Pillar - but Pompey hopefully has a future as a starter in this league). -

We should fire AA immediately if he gives up any of those assets - unless the return is Chapman - or some elite like that (Wade Davis?). I swore I read this past offseason how upset people were when AA gave up Snider and Thames for bullpen arms and how stupid that strategy was... We should try and pry an arm away from the Royals. Davis, Hochevar, Madson......not sure I'd touch Holland or Herrera.

They are relying on replacement who have no business playing the OF right now due to injuries to Saunders and Bautista. This isn't a challenging concept sir. -

How much longer do we have him? 2 more years? Reyes at second, replaced by a real shortstop would be a lot more palatable... Travis makes that challenging now though -

I was marvelling at Harpers wRC+ yesterday and I actually went to Fangraphs to look up what the highest wRC+ that Babe Ruth put up back in the day...239 is the answer...Bonds was at 244 in 2002. I think that's the highest single season of all time.

How frustrating is it that Smoak can't get regular at bats due to this Bautista thing? I've been impressed and want to see if given the opportunity, he can turn his career around. Estrada in the rotation looks good too as our #5.

My thoughts exactly. Is the caller too stupid to realise there's no guarantee 15 days of rest will permanently cure Bautista's shoulder? Can't fix stupid.
