  1. Would miss some of the epic pitcher hitter duels, but feel like foul balls should be counted for strikes with 2 strikes just like if you were bunting. Would drammatically shorten the game. The whole point of hitters being awarded balls is so that the pitchers are penalized for not thowing pitches in a reasonably "hit-able" region. If a hitter can and does foul a ball off, it means the pitch was close enough and enticed a swing regardless if there was contact or not. Feel like it is a very lazy part of the game and puts people to sleep. Same would go for a swinging strike 3 that the catcher doesn't catch. HE'S OUT, move on..no need for the throw to first. So stupid to reach base on a thowing error at that point.
  2. That comparison did fail a little, but yours did not make a lot of sense either. Japanese/Korean team? The BJays and Orioles are in the same division man. Let's try this Brett Cecil was offered a spot in the RedSox rotation and they expected to give us either nothing or MAYBE some noname as compensation.
  3. Seems everyone on this board is failing to see this from the perspective of the Orioles. Sure at first it's easy to see Angelos' wrinkled ass as the villain, but why are we expecting to steal a rival GM like it's no big deal. The off season esp. around winter meetings is when they do the bulk of their work and for some reason it seemed like the perfect timing for us to try to give poor old DD a promotion?? He's under contract ffs. If a pitcher under contract on the BJays randomly decided they wanted to move to the NL b/c the AL was affecting their #'s and therefore the BJays were standing in the way of their personal progression would you think the BJays were being selfish for not letting them go? For some reason it seems OK that we are pursuing DD cuz he's being promoted. Who the hell cares? If anything it would sting MORE. If Farrell was poached to be the assistant GM of the Redsox instead of head coach the move would seem a lot more like the Redsox were just leaving us without a coach than them actually trying to fill a "managerial vacancy". What makes this even worse is there is no real indication that DD is THE guy for the job. Because of this, BJays fans don't want to part with any non-scrub player and the idea of parting with Hoffman is so laughable. Given the importance of DD to the Orioles, the s***** timing by Rogers, and the sleazy way they went about it, it isn't unreasonable for Angelos to put a premium on the compensation going back. We should just stop trolling the crap out of the Orioles fanbase and just give up.
  4. Better have checked the water resistant mark on that thing http://assets3.thrillist.com/v1/image/1219275/size/tmg-slideshow_xl
  5. No thanks, Norris is pretty much ready for #5 pitching time, and has atleast #2-#3 potential. Strasburg after TJS is a BIG ?
  6. Sanchez should be right in there too, IF we sign Shields/Norris jumps up to SP. Should be good with that if we can get a 7th inning guy for Navarro. Don't see why we need much more.
  7. Here's to hoping Dickey has his best year as a Blue Jay. Shields Stroman Dickey Hutchison Buehrle Norris Estrada Sanchez to the BP full time, trade Navarro for a 7th inning guy and we're done!
  8. Oh wow...so surprising to see that their rotation can still stand with ours after losing so many studs.
  9. If we just signed a pitcher, we got Norris, Sanchez, and Estrada as depth which is pretty decent.
  10. But we can still add pitching, just refusing to for some reason
  11. Well no we wont lose WAR, but we'll lose wins that that added WAR was supposed to have induced if the other teams we face a lot got a lot better too.
  12. Didn't Jesse Chavez go from like their #6 guy to their # 2 guy this offseason?
  13. I can come off as an imbecile online, but so can you. Programs/algorithms/code are just tools people use and create and I was wondering why the programmer felt the need to include the line on projections. You could say I wasn't being gender neutral, but I was assuming it was a guy behind the statistical model.
  14. Why are steamer projections referenced so much? Seems like such a waste of everyone's time including his. I'll start off by saying I am completely ignorant on the matter, but I just don't see it. His predictions seem to just be extrapolations of a player's past performance with a slap of regression. Pretty much all the studs on the Jays roster regress according to his predictions...
  15. Buy why? what did I say that is deserving of a head shake?
  16. Down on FO not spending money on FA. Also we improved 1 win according to fangraphs? I thought atleast 2...Bunch of BS though if it's projecting Seattle to be first overall.
  17. Yeah esp. since everyone knows he's on the block as we want Edwin DHing and Navarro wants to be the everyday C. Him coming to spring training heavier doesn't help his value either if anyone wanted to extrapolate for this off-season XD
  18. Yeah and my argument is I feel a lot of the value we gained from the OS moves was salary relief and all of that value is probably going to be wasted. If AA could swing a trade of Navarro, Estrada, Sanchez, +??? for a legit 1-2 SP, we are set. Then we can lay back and let all the other teams do w/e TF they wanted to do, and just pick up some RP here and there. As it stands now, AA doing nothing while all the other teams are making moves is REALLY frustrating and going a long way to erase how well the OS started off.
  19. Yeah you got me. I just feel with all of the money we "saved" and are going to save with Romero and Beuhrle gone, we can afford one semi-bad big SP contract to add 4-5 WAR on top of that you know? Then all these random contributions from 2B, CF and 5th starter/BP would be a huge bonus instead of desperately expected.
  20. Naw we could have instead signed Headley and moved Lawrie to second, gone through with the Saunders for Melky replacement to pick up the 1st, and then swung a trade for a #1-2 SP with Baretto, Nolin, Graveman, and Sanchez as pieces.
  21. That's the key here, b/c outside of that we are only ~2 wins better and we haven't taken into consideration that Bautista could damage his wrist again, Edwin could pull something and be out longer, Donaldson could flop (relatively...4war instead of the 7 or so he posted), and Stroman or Hutch could blow out their young arms.
  22. I know potential WAR looks like cherry picking, but I feel if you are not going to account for possible regression and injuries (to guys like Stroman, Bautista, Donaldson) and are just expecting them to produce at their 2014 clip, it's one and the same. Players rebound from down years and disappoint after big years as well.
