  1. There were underlying concerns with both prior to acquisition, but they both had Cy Young years right before we acquired them. If they are having problems... Especially if we are giving up guys like Syndergaard, Sanchez, Norris, and/or Hoffman in these trades, why not target a younger AL pitcher and get a guy with a few years of control?
  2. Haven't we had enough bad experiences acquiring NL pitchers? Even if they work out, we are going to overpay for inflated numbers.
  3. Hopefully Norris Sanchez and Hoffman get lots of development time this season. If we manage to snag a #1-2 SP this offseason (with the money we save off Buehrle and Romero), our rotation could look pretty sick (and deep) next season.
  4. Isn't this like stripping Lance Armstrong of all his Tour de France records/titles? Seems fair in a lot of ways. You don't reward a guy for breaking the rules. 1 year suspension and he's a new player, but his Hr count carries on? That's inconsistent. Arod deserves to be paid out his contract. Incentives, however, he is undeserving of.
  5. Add up to about 15 WAR??? This team does not look 15 WAR better than last season, there in lies the problem. I love AA man, guy pulled off some big trades, but he has himself to blame. You don't think Rogers is pissed they are paying Buehrle, Reyes, and Romero a combined ~50M for performance they could get for maybe 5-10M? Hard to blame them for staying pat as well...
  6. I told you guys not to get too excited and that this team wasn't much better than last years team cuz there weren't many more moves coming. You guys were high off the Donaldson move and chose to laugh at me saying it was a long offseason and focused on all the money Rogers was saving. The season is long, but I don't know how this team will make the playoffs with the current pitching staff. Cash was definitely the crippling factor here, hard to blame AA for the offseason after the JD trade, but he set it up with the Buehrle and Reyes trade and in many ways the Dickey trade (would be nice to have an ace right about now).
  7. Voice box crushed??? wow, da hell is going on?
  8. Hendricks for closer??? Pitching them less may help them. What WILL help them is keeping them out of high leverage situations. Just the other day Gibby pulled Osuna after he allowed a hit, threw in Cecil as a lefty specialist, and then rushed in Castro when that went to s***. Not only was it terrible that they rushed him in, using your BP guys for 1 or 2 outs greatly increases the leverage of the situation. Castro has to come in with guys on to get the biggest out of the game. Of course their confidence would be shot when things go wrong, they are young and are used to being starters, not relievers where one out was your only job and is so easy to blow. That 7-6 game we won against Baltimore, you saw how emotional Castro was after almost blowing the save. Those high tension moments add up.
  9. They both got the stuff to be here. Can't be surprised too much if Castro is struggling in his first yr as closer. Their development has been rushed as is, why put the guy in the highest leverage situation you possibly could??? Necessity is not a good enough answer.
  10. Sanchez to the BP would be all that's needed facilitated by a trade for SP. This NEEDS to happen now. We cannot honestly hope to roll with a rotation of Stroman Hutch Sanchez Norris Dickey Next yr We need a proven starter in there. Let Hoffman develop.
  11. When are we gonna trade for a SP? Reyes at #5 should permanently discredit UZR IMO, I saw him break for a ball and make a half-ass dive at it once it was already past him in this Tampa series alone...
  12. Hopefully Bautista is back...offense goes from average to elite with him out/in
  13. While I agree with you, the BP isn't the strongest, it is very capable of winning games. Yesterday was just Gibby trying to be too cute IMO. Cecil doesn't have overpowering stuff to bring him in as a specialist. Osuna was doing fine. Ended up rushing in both Cecil and Castro. If you think of the high leverage innings RP put in, rushing guys into games cannot possibly be advantageous in the long run.
  14. Yeah over-managed the crap out of that. We don't have the guys to be doing that sort of thing.
  15. He doesn't set up batters well enough to be a SP. Constantly trying to induce groundballs=made for the pen
  16. I most definitely don't want it to happen, but it seems like a probable outcome.
  17. Me too, would be insane if a ball sails from one of the pitchers early...accidental or not.
  18. Yeah...I really don't know why they bothered to swing at the knuckleball in his CY year. Seems like you can pretty easily draw walks (easier than trying to hit) and then pressure him to throw more fastballs once guys are on and then just hit him hard.
  19. Good for him for not waiting for the numbers to go look ugly before calling it quits (if he decides). What a career he has made!
  20. I can't believe anyone didn't see this coming or are upset over it. In my mind this is the best thing that could have possibly happened. Think of how sick this looks Stroman Dickey Hutch Buehrle Norris Pen 6th AND 7th inning guys Sanchez, Osuna 8th Cecil Closer- Castro Sure Stroman went down, but that is almost nullified with the emergence of Norris. We can't go back and sign a FA pitcher like we should have BUT we can still make a trade as you should do when your ace goes down to injury. What you don't do is pretend nothing happened and try to fill a huge void (even bigger with the departure of Happ) with a guy that is filling a hole in the BP. Also I am not yet convinced that Sanchez can't be a SP someday, but considering what we're trying to accomplish this yr, it's ridiculous to have a guy struggle in the SP role when he could excel throwing 97 out of then pen.
