    Nobody actually needs an "Ace" to get the play-offs, they just need 5 starting pitchers who's collective performance outdoes their opponent (not to mention bullpen and offense). Once you get to the play-offs it's a different story of course...

    It's a scary thing. Very few players do not decline after signing massive contracts. I don't know why any GM would do this and I respect that our organization refuses to.

    I think in the world of baseball a "decision that doesn't pan out" is essentially a bad decision.

    AG: I think you're right but this is all happening for the wrong reasons. Our GM is on the hotseat and we have a slim chance to compete so he's taking it. There's no way AA is going to go into a rebuild mode, that's essentially admitting failure on his part.

    Don't care. There's 30 MLB teams. I realize fans want to pretend like they're the only team but really you have to compete with up to 29 other teams. Usually there's half a dozen or more in on any given player so the odds are always going to be stacked against you.

    It's pretty devastating.... After that blockbuster trade where everyone thought (at the time) that we totally fleeced the Marlins... and now, next year the Marlins will most likely make the play-offs and the Blue Jays most likely won't. Meanwhile Reyes and Buehrle are sleeping in mattresses full of $$ P.S.> Reyes is a loser.

    There used to be a time when it was exceptionally rare for a player to jump from AA to the majors. Alex Anthopoulos has made this exceptionally common in recent years. And it reeks of desperation.
