  1. One scout telling him he thinks he'll throw 100 doesn't mean he actually will, and he's really nowhere near that now. "Mid-rotation" is a pretty standard realistic upside for any HS pitcher that isn't drafted within the Top 5-10 picks. Projecting anything more than that is pretty silly.
  2. Why, because his whopping 125 at bats in his first taste of pro ball after splitting time in HS means he'll never-ever hit? Some of you really don't understand anything about player development. Justin Woodell saw him in extended and noted that he looked MUCH better at the plate than his look in the GCL last year. He also threw a runner out last night.
  3. Nobody in an MLB front office scouts a stat line. This was a dominant outing; the thought that somehow his value is going to be affected because he gave up a few runs in the 9th inning is beyond silly. This is why teams dispatch Pro Scouts ahead of the deadline to track targets.
  4. Why, so we can get less return? Morales has just one year left on his deal. The only side who benefits from that is Rogers because they get to pinch a few pennies, meanwhile you're taking less return on one of your best assets (Happ) so that someone else can pay Morales to sit on the bench, which we can just do ourselves. Only broke-ass teams make moves like what you just suggested. This team isn't ready to compete either way, so its not like shedding Morales or Tulo somehow makes us competitive next year. Long story short: dumb idea.
  5. Teo 1:01 Thoughts on Adam Kloffenstein? What's his ceiling A mid-rotation guy? He seems pretty filled out for a HS player st 6'5 220, so I'm wondering how much more projection or velocity there still is left. Kiley McDaniel 1:02 There's some and he's really loose and athletic, one scout told me he thinks he'll throw 100 in a couple years. Yeah mid rotation upside.
  6. Kiley kind of backing up Law on Smith's defense....
  7. Groshans with the 3 run bomb top of the 9th!! MVP MVP
  8. Zack Zehner? If he's the one you were thinking of, he had eligibility left and went back to school.
  9. I highly doubt that these no-name Seniors have agents. These are dudes that are just happy to get a chance to play. Even if they did have agents, you realize that agents have their own reputation to uphold, right? That is why they don't pull crap like that (ie: all of a sudden demanding more money).
  10. Groshans struck out in his first AB. Bust. He's also playing SS. Addison Barger (3B), Leonardo Jimenez (DH) are also in the lineup, with Alejandro Melean starting.
  11. The two Seniors (Bec and Brodt) are the only ones who haven't had their bonus announced yet, so obviously the savings can only come from them LOL.
  12. You understand that all of these bonuses are predetermined at the point of selection, right? Why people worry over this boggles my mind. If they were going to be over, they wouldn't have selected the players that they selected.
  13. Ahhh yes, peak-era JPR drafting: pass on Tulowitzki because we already had Adams and Hill, neither of which was a SS anyway LOL.
  14. What with all the extensive scouting work you did, right?
  15. Off Triston McKenzie which h should be noted.
  16. No, Singer just isn't as good as people want to make him out to be. He is relatively polished but the fact of the matter is that its a very good chance that he's a #4 starter type, on top of potential reliever risk as well. Its a two-pitch mix right now and there is worry that his low arm slot will prevent him from developing a good changeup. His stuff overall kind of plateaued this season as well so its not like that two-pitch mix is a plus-plus fastball/slider combo either. Keith Law for instance has been very vocal about his belief that Dane Dunning, who went 29th out of Florida two years ago, is a better prospect than Singer.
  17. Most #1 signing (7 figure guys) start stateside, especially within our organization, so that part really isn't that impressive (even Yeltsin Gudino started stateside). Pardinho skipping the GCL altogether however is a pretty big indication of how they feel about him.
  18. Hiraldo was up in Dunedin for extended spring training just a few weeks ago, and apparently looking real good according to Jason Woodell who saw him. I have absolutely no idea why he was sent down to start the DSL season. When they bring a guy stateside, its because they're sending him to Rookie ball in the GCL or Bluefield or Vancouver. I don't think I've ever seen them bring a top signing stateside, and then sent him back down to go play in the DSL. I'd imagine he's back up as soon as the GCL season starts, but this is still odd.
  19. Guangorena isn't signing. He's there as a backup in case some freak occurrence happens with Kloffenstein.
  20. Check the post date on this. Come at me brahs.
  21. So for some reason the A's are actually paying OVER slot to sign Murray (~5 million), AND letting him play football this fall. Mind blown.
  22. Conine hit 3 HR's today in a double header to help Duke advance.
  23. I knew it was going to be Conine!
  24. Edwards is gone, Rocker is available but doubt we saved enough money to sign him unless we're going underslot elsewhere (I can't imagine that Groshans gets full slot, so there should be some room to go over).
