  1. I like how he doesn’t hold his glove on the edges as if Robbie has any chance of aiming spots. Dude just airs it out. He puts the glove down after showing the target, so even if Ray misses by a mile it’s still a chance for strike if borderline. Already happened twice in 6 outs.
  2. Catching Robbie Ray can’t be an easy first assignment.
  3. I dunno, maybe Simeon really is that good. Lean 6-3 righty with good frame throwing 92-95, touching 97 @ 19 years old. Plus changeup, good curveball and slider. Plus control. Young for level. Swing & miss stuff and high IQ. Sounds a bit like Chris Paddack?
  4. Not your fault. Anderson vs deGrom wasn’t likely to end well one way or another.
  5. Having an offensive catcher bench option to pinch hit for Jansen is also a good thing. They’ve already pinched hit for Jansen so many times this season, might as well be Kirk. If Kirk is legit this move makes a lot of sense.
  6. No doubt if he rakes right away it’ll be hard to send him down for service time reasons. It’s kinda dumb to service time manipulate a catcher, and I think the org realizes that which is why he got called. If the bat is ready, let him contribute. If he’s playing at an All Star level at age 28 (which implies he’s still healthy) just pay the man his money.
  7. As he should. There was only one scenario Martin would be available at #5, and it happened on draft night.
  8. Huge Hole is not an understatement. The Blue Jays are near the MLB bottom in offense from their catching position. Jansen has been somewhat okay, but McGuire was as black as a black hole can get.
  9. It starts the clock but there’s no way to gain a full season of service time. And if he gets sent down the clock will stop. It’s pretty much a non-issue. Could probably use another season in AA/AAA to work on fundamentals and defense. The bat should be ready to contribute though, even just in a smaller role.
  10. Alejandro Kirk is one of four players in the Blue Jays farm system this past three years to be given a 70-grade hit tool (or 80) by Baseball America. BA also came out to say he just missed their pre-season top 100 rankings (a few staff voted for him). The other three: - Vlad Jr - Bo Bichette - Austin Martin His plate discipline is Biggio-esque with higher bat-to-ball ability. Surprising amount of pop in his bat, but more doubles than homers, more pull side and line-drive power. High on-base skills and zone recognition. Quick compact swing. He’s completely untested in double-A, so this is unprecedented for a catching prospect. Arm is also pretty decent, defense has made strides this past year.
  11. It’s happening boys!
  12. 280 lbs guy running for a fly ball at max speed into the opponents bullpen area usually doesn’t end well.
  13. Defensively probably the best outfield glove in the system along with Chavez Young. I think Davis has slightly better speed and Young has better arm. I’d say better/more consistent than Alford previously.
  14. Captain Kirk sighting
  15. Won’t be that big of an issue. Most of our starters don’t go deep, he will have opportunities to pitch 3 innings. Pearson was practically an opener in double-A, alternating between 2 IP and 5 IP starts. His arm also isn’t built up for a full season workload. He also pitches out of the BP in spring training.
