First, I think Gibbons is a bad manager and should be fired. BP management has always been an issue with him and he makes some questionable lineup decisions. Has attitude is too lackadaisical, and we can see the results of that in the attitudes of the players.
Second, firing a manager can be a real boost to a team. Buck Showalter sparked a terrible O's team. Farrell sparked the Bo Sox after Valentine's tyrannical reign (I acknowledge this was at the end of the season)... and that is just our division in the last few years. Then there was the 1989 season when Williams was replaced mid season by Cito and we made the playoffs.
Third, if replacing Gibbons does nothing or the team does worse, then the new incoming president will have to consider replacing AA or gutting the team. I suspect that the team will rebound before this happens but who knows.
Fourth, selling off assets or trading away prospects would be throwing out the baby with the bathwater. We have a couple of bluechips in the minors and some really good contracts in the majors. Yes, we have some that are s*** but so does every team and those are soon going to expire.
Sum: Fire Gibbons before it is too late.
