  1. Yes. Both are assaults, but one is assault with a weapon. Bush and Chavez should be getting the biggest suspensions, but that isnt the way it works obviously.
  2. I dont understand how people dont get more upset about intentionally throwing at a batter. A player has been killed by a pitch. So why isnt this punished severely?
  3. Well the bullpen is constantly being put in situations where they are asked to not give up any runs for 3 or even 4 plus innings. That is expecting too much from an average bullpen. It is not too much to ask that one of the best offences in the majors (on paper) give the pitching adequate run support. It is not like the bullpen is blowing 3+ run leads. Those losses attributed to the bullpen are mostly tie or 1 run games. The better question is: How many games have the jays lost due to inadequate/under-performing offence. This is without even addressing the issue of bullpen mismanagement. Utilizing RHP vs. LHB when you have LHP in available (LHP that come in latter in the game to face RHB no less) isnt helping.
  4. Disagree. Bullpen is middle of the road as per fangraphs: http://www.fangraphs.com/leaders.aspx?pos=all&stats=rel&lg=all&qual=0&type=8&season=2016&month=0&season1=2016&ind=0&team=0,ts&rost=0&age=0&filter=&players=0 Offence is also middle of the road: http://www.fangraphs.com/leaders.aspx?pos=all&stats=bat&lg=all&qual=0&type=8&season=2016&month=0&season1=2016&ind=0&team=0,ts&rost=&age=&filter=&players=0 The problem is that no one expected the jays to be relying on their bullpen this season. We all expected them to be the middle of the road, which is where they are. No one expected the offence to be middle of the road. Most would have it ranked in the top 5 in the league with many picking it as the #1. Would it matter of the BP was giving up a couple runs a game if the offence was in full gear? I doubt we would even be discussing an even crappier bullpen if our offence was where it should be.
  5. Good game. Offense still needs to wake the f*** up though
  6. Couldnt hang onto it = couldnt catch it in his teeth
  7. EE! Feel like he is starting to turn the corner on his season.
  8. That analogy isnt even close, mostly because you guys would probably whine more than Bautista . And the point was that the "human element" goes beyond simple motivation or playing in clutch situations (ie: alcoholism). But since you mention it, with respect to motivation: how about Tiger Woods who gets caught cheating and wife leaves him and he falls apart (then gets injured later but w/e). While stats offer a good measure predictability, being human does not.
  9. I would say it is much more complex than that. Events in peoples lives can have a big impact on how they perform. Peoples attitudes have a big impact. Stats cant predict when someone is going to start boozing again (Hamilton) or the type of player that is inclined to play through a particular type of injury vs. one that goes on the DL. Can you really say that Tulo and Price showing up on the Jays roster didn't motivate players to play harder last fall?
  10. I tend to agree about the "human aspect"... but I disagree for the most part about the snobbery. I think most of the discussions around advanced stats are just that. The perfunctory nature of type written argument on message boards, texts etc. can be so sterile that it comes off as rude.
  11. Boom!!! he missed with that pitch!
  12. Remember the days when our RF could throw people out
  13. Im happy with the Jays just running up pitch counts for the first 4 innings or so.
  14. Wilner: Happ best pitcher in MLB since last trade deadline
  15. Pillar: "can i lead off again please"
  16. Im going out on a limb to say that it is looking like there wont be 3 consecutive walkoffs (jinx noted)
  17. My favorite stat for this game so far? ZERO strikeouts in the 3rd inning.
  18. I like Pillar leading off here but he shouldnt stay there when Saunders gets back. On the other hand, Smoak could probably fill in nicely with the way he has been playing. You could argue that Barney could fill in nicely too (keeping his 15 pitch AB the other night in mind). f***... now im not sure who should be there.
